Central Council go green for football championship revamp

January 22, 2022

The future of the All-Ireland football championship will be discussed further at National Congress.

The GAA's Central Council has voted in favour of the 'Green' Proposal to revamp the All-Ireland football championship structure.

The 'Green' format would retain the Allianz League and provincial championships' under the current format, with round-robin groups for the Sam Maguire and Tailteann Cup competitions, from next year, if passed at National Congress next month.

The other option, the 'Red' Proposal, involved a round-robin provincial championship, followed by a league-based championship, similar to Proposal B which was rejected at Special Congress last October.
