DREADNOTS 1-17

O RAGHALLAIGHS 3-6

Dreadnots fought back from an interval deficit to secure their place in next year’s Senior Championship at the expense of O Raghallaighs.

Friday’s nights relegation play-off final produced plenty in the way of entertainment, particularly in the first half before a solid display from the Clogher outfit in the second half saw them come out on top by five points.

Despite Ben Rogan scoring three goals inside four first half minutes, the Drogheda men paid the price for failing to find their form in front of the posts in the second period and as a result find themselves back in Intermediate football for next year.

It was the Dreadnots who struck the first blow of the game when Pepe Smith opened the scoring with a goal as his side moved 1-3 to 0-1 clear after 13 minutes.si

However, the O Raghallaighs hit back in style with a hat-trick from Rogan to lead by 3-1 to 1-3 after 17 minutes. The village side hit back to cut the gap but a late point from goalkeeper Joe Flanagan had his side leading by 3-3 to 1-7 at half time.

The second half saw the Dreadnots gradually gain control and they moved ahead with points from Pat Lynch, Nathan Sutherland, Jay Hughes and Craig Shevlin.

The O Raghallaighs just couldn’t get the scores they needed and in the dying moments the Dreadnots settled the issue when Smith tapped a penalty over the bar.
