Killoe made it back-to-back Longford senior football championship titles after defeating Longford Slashers by 0-13 to 1-8 in the 2020 decider at Pearse Park this evening.

Points from Ryan Moffatt and Larry Moran (2) in the closing 10 minutes were enough for Tommy Donohoe’s men to see out the victory here, after Andrew Kelly’s penalty had left the game in the melting pot for the closing quarter.

The holders started well in Longford Town with the points of Ronan McGoldrick and Mark Hughes helping them to lead by 0-4 to 0-1 after 12 minutes and that margin would stand at half-time (0-8 to 0-5).

Eamon Keogh stretched the advantage out to four early in the restart with a superb point before the Slashers came roaring back into contention thanks to a converted penalty from Kelly in the 43rd minute, making it 0-10 to 1-6.

Barry Gilleran levelled the game in the 51st minute but that was as good as it would get for the challengers, as Moffatt got Killoe’s noses back in front and a brace of points from Moran would ensure the victory which marks the Young Emmets’ 13th Connolly Cup success.
