Dromard 1-14 St Mary’s Granard 1-11. Well done to our senior football panel and management team who defeated Granard on Sunday morning last in Páirc na nGael. With several players unavailable, Dromard showed great workrate and fighting spirit in coming out on top in a keenly contested encounter. The teams were level at half time, Dromard 0-8 to Granard’s 1-5. In the second half, Dromard put together some well-worked passages of play with Francis McGee scoring the vital goal after a James Martin effort hit the post. Joseph Hagan was to the fore up front and kicked a number of excellent points. Well done to the players on a fine performance. Team versus Granard: Oisin Hourican; Kevin Kane, James Mimnagh, Dylan McCormack; Kevin Donohoe, John Sheridan, Peter Reynolds; Oisin O’Toole, Ronan McEntire; Daniel Conboy, Bernard Sheridan, Peadar Kiernan; Ross McNerney, Francis McGee, Joseph Hagan. Subs: James Martin, David Pettit.

Honours for Maria Matthews: Congratulations to talented Dromard soprano Maria Matthews who won the overall vocal bursary at the Birr Festival of Music which took place at the Birr Theatre and Arts Centre on Saturday night. Maria was one of just six performers to make it through to the finals – an achievement in itself – but her 15-minute performance on Saturday night saw her go a step further in claiming the overall vocal bursary. Congratulations to Maria and to her parents Anne and Tony on this wonderful achievement.

All-Ireland Hurling Final Tickets Draw: Congratulations to former Dromard Ladies GAA player, Rosario Rabbitt, Fostra/Cleenrath and former Dromard Senior Selector, Jimmy Reilly, Firmullagh, on winning the right to buy our two All-Ireland Hurling Final Tickets. In the event that they could not travel, the two reserve names that were pulled out at the draw were Margaret Dunne, Crott, and Willy Monaghan, Ballymore. Thank you to our hardworking club chairman, Gerry Sheridan for all his work in organising and facilitating this draw and to his son Conor Sheridan, who is ever ready to help out at the club, for drawing out the winners and also to anyone else who facilitated in any way.

Dromard Parish Fundraiser: In consultation with the Parish Finance Committee, our Parish Priest Fr. Pat Lennon decided to undertake a number of projects at both churches in the Parish, St Francis Xavier Church, Moyne and St Mary’s Church, Legga. The work at Moyne has been completed with the church painted inside and outside including the Sacristy and toilets. This work has proven very popular with parishioners and has greatly improved and modernised the appearance of the church inside and out. Renovations were also completed to the Sanctuary. A number of projects have taken place at St Mary’s Church, Legga and further work is needed. In addition to these projects, several people have expressed the view that resurfacing of the tarmacadam around the perimeter of St Francis Xavier Church, Moyne, would greatly enhance the Church and improve access and safety for those attending Mass and visiting the adjoining cemetery. Since the additional projects have not been budgeted for, it has been decided to organise a fundraising campaign where the Parish community have an opportunity to make a contribution to the completion of this work at their two churches. A gofundme online website has been set up where anyone in a position to do so is asked to contribute whatever they can. The page can be accessed from the Dromard GAA facebook page or the Dromard Parish page. The direct link is: https://gofund.me/fb791616 For those who are not in a position to make a contribution online, donations can be sent directly to Fr. Pat. We trust that the people of the Parish will take pride in supporting this initiative and the contribute to the upkeep of our churches.

Masses: In-person religious services are continuing, subject to a maximum attendance of 50 people in the Church. Attendance at a Wednesday (Moyne 7pm) or Friday evening Mass (Legga 7pm) has the same status as the weekend Masses. With attendances in both churches limited to 50, Fr Pat has requested that as many people as possible attend the weekday Masses so as to avoid people having to be turned away from weekend Masses. Ushers are on duty in both churches to help ensure the safety of those attending. Masses continue to be streamed live online from from St. Francis Xavier Church Moyne on churchtv.ie/moyne and from St Mary’s Legga on churchtv.ie/legga The weekly Church Newsletter can be collected from Corrigans, Gortermone Stores or Moyne Stores and from both churches, which remain open during the day for private prayer.
