All-Ireland champions Limerick added more silverware to their collection this afternoon by seeing off Clare on a 0-27 to 0-18 score-line in the Munster Hurling Cup final in Ennis.

David Reidy hit 0-12 for the Treaty men over the 70 minutes at Cusack Park, where the visitors led by 0-8 to 0-5 at the first water break.

Cathal Malone saw a goal chance for Clare fly over the crossbar afterwards and it was John Kiely’s men that finished out the half strong with points from marksman Reidy, Gearoid Hegarty and corner-back Richie English to take in a 0-17 to 0-9 half-time lead.

Limerick ‘keeper David McCarthy denied sub Ryan Taylor a goal early in the restart with fine save and four more points from Reidy, along with a brace from Brian O’Grady, saw the victors up by 11 in the closing quarter.

Clare’s own David Reidy, who finished with 0-9, helped dwindle down the deficit to single figures while Patrick Crotty and Robin Mounsey also contributed points on their senior debuts for the Banner County.

There’d be no epic comeback from Brian Lohan’s charges as Limerick – starting with just seven of the 20 that lined out in last August’s All-Ireland SHC final – strode comfortably to some early silverware for 2022.
