West Intermediate League

Glin 2-7

Cappagh 0-8

Another battling to come from behind performance from our first string last Friday night earned us 2 points in the league to finish out a great week for our senior teams.

Played on a perfect surface in Páirc Uí Chathaláin and ably reffed by John McGrath, we started well but couldn't make it count on the scoreboard. Cappagh converted some nice scores as we went in at halftime behind by 5 points. After a small schmozzle early in the second half, we came to life and dominated the remainder of the game with goals from cousins Sheagh and James. The defence was resolute when needed only conceding a solitary score in the 30 plus minutes. Overall, it was a great squad effort from everyone. This is a very young team but from flashes last night, there is plenty of ability and a massive work ethic which will see our lads continue to improve game on game.

Team: S Lyons, A. Mulvihill, S. Horan, T. Woulfe, John Wallace, Jamie Fitzgerald, S. Barrett, R Culhane (0-1), J. Sheehan (0-2. 1 45') F. Henderson, S. O'Connor (1-0), S O'Sullivan, J. O'Neill, James Wallace (1-2), C. Culhane (0-2), JD Hickey, E. Mulvihill, J. Scannell, C. Shine.

West Junior League

Glin 2-10

St. Senan's 1-11

Our second game of the league took place in Foynes last Tuesday evening. We played quite well in the first half with Gary Culhane, Cian Culhane (0-2), Shane O'Sullivan and Ger Lyons among the point scorers. Senan's had their moments took and we took a one point lead in at half time, 0-5 to 0-4.

The second half began poorly for us and our opponents dominated the exchanges, with two Ger Lyons points being our sole response up until the 50th minute. At this stage we were seven points behind and victory look well and truly beyond us. However, cometh the hour, cometh the man. In the last ten minutes we scored 2-3 without reply to win by 2 points. It began with a long range shot from Edmond Horan which deceived the keeper and ended up in the net.

Minutes later, Stephen Barrett grabbed hold of a breaking ball on the 14 yard line and lashed it into the back of the net. A minute after that, a rampaging David Horan was cynically taken out as he bore down on goal and Paul Sheahan stroked over the free to put us level. But we weren't finished yet. Ger Lyons curled over a great free from a tight angle on the left hand side before Gary Culhane put the icing on the cake  by slotting a 30 yard curler between the posts. It was a richly deserved victory and a testament to the never say die attitude of these players, who now look forward eagerly to their next contest with old enemies Mountcollins on Wednesday evening.

Team: M. Stack, K. Scanlon, T. Culhane, S. Barrett, P. Cregan, P. Fitzgerald, P. O'Connor, E. Horan, P. Sheehan, S O'Sullivan G. Culhane, F. Henderson, E. Mulvihill, G. Lyons, C. Culhane.
