CLUB DEVELOPMENT: Over the past number of weeks, a Development Plan brochure has been dropped to every house in the community, reaching out for assistance to help the club fund our development project and bring it to life. Our plans include a 25m Training Wall, complete with a 675m2 enclosed Astroturf Training Area, floodlighting and secure perimeter fencing. This will provide our club members with an all-year-round much-needed all-weather training facility which will help develop the skills in hurling, camogie and Gaelic football from our most junior to our adult teams as well as allowing our non-playing members an area to exercise.

 

In addition, we are launching a Go Fund Me page (link below), which will allow our club members, community and patrons far and wide to straight away support this project and our goals of getting it started in 2021. 2020 U-14 FOOTBALL 13-A-SIDE COUNTY FINAL: It may have taken place six months into 2021, but our U-14 footballers finally got to finish out the 2020 Championship this week. On Monday evening, they comprehensively defeated Granagh/Ballingarry in the semi-final on a 1-9 to 0-2 scoreline, meaning that they travelled to Mick Neville Park on Saturday morning to take on Athea. It was yet another superb game of open football, but disappointingly, goals proved crucial and Athea just managed to get a few more than our boys. The final score was Athea 5-5 Kildimo/Pallaskenry 2-7. Well done to all involved for making a county final; it has been a difficult year and that will be one of the strangest county finals those boys ever play, now in the midst of another season.

 

CITY SENIOR HURLING LEAGUE: Kildimo/Pallaskenry 0-17 Monaleen 1-24. Our Pallas Plastering/Chill the Beans-sponsored senior hurlers unfortunately fell to Monaleen in the second round of the league. This game was almost score-for-score in the first half, with some great points from the likes of Luke Guinane, Cathal Downes and Barry O’Connell. However, a goal in the third quarter for our opponents proved crucial and allowed them to open up a bit of gap. A number of subs at the third water break from both sides disrupted the flow of the game slightly and Monaleen managed to maintain their lead until the final whistle. Again, down a number of regulars for various reasons; this was another chance to blood a number of newcomers. Ciarán Barry, in his first year eligible to play senior hurling, was again very impressive while Luke Guinane and Darren Whelan made their second competitive starts for the club with Darragh Walsh and Ciarán Downes were among those who made appearances from the bench. County champions of 2019, Patrickswell, are our next opponents in yet another tough fixture.

 

WEST SENIOR FOOTBALL LEAGUE: Kildimo/Pallaskenry 2-7 Newcastlewest 3-18. Our Pallas Plastering/Chill the Beans-sponsored footballers also played their opening league match during the week at home against a Newcastlewest side who have won the last four All-County Football League Division 1 titles. The final score probably flattered our opponents, as wholesale changes in the final quarter disrupted matters somewhat and the men from the west stretched their lead from 6 to 14 points. Dylan Corrigan struck two goals for us, a penalty and a brilliantly-taken opportunistic strike after intercepting a kickout.

 

CITY JUNIOR A HURLING LEAGUE: Kildimo/Pallaskenry 6-12 Old Christians 2-13. Our junior hurlers started their league campaign in fine fashion with an emphatic victory over Old Christians. This was a really tough-fought battle in the first half, as Old Christians largely had the better of the first quarter but a poacher’s goal from Dean O’Neill kept us in touch. In the first half, we mainly relied on the freetaking abilities of Dean O’Neill and Evan Considine but although we suffered a setback when Old Christians rattled the back of the net themselves, we did not allow this affect our confidence. Our hard work paid off and we got a bit of luck before the break as two fortuitous goals in the space of a couple of minutes from Liam O’Sullivan and Gerard McKeogh saw us take a 4-point advantage at the break: Kildimo/Pallaskenry 3-5 Old Christians 1-7.

 

We took that bit of luck and used it to build a really dominant second-half performance. Both Dean O’Neill and Ger McKeogh got another goal in the second half, both of those players would finish with 2-2 from open play. Aaron O’Donovan got our sixth goal and he also scored a fine point from play, with Darren Lane also nailing a free. Although the goalscoring caught the eye, this was a performance built upon hard work and a cohesive team display. Marc O’Shea gave an absolutely outstanding display at corner-back in his first start in a competitive adult fixture, cleaning every forward our opponents sent his way. Naoise McGarrigle was hugely prominent at right wing-back getting forward to launch numerous attacks and dominant under a high ball, while team captain Evan Considine held things together superbly at the heart of the defence. Brian Howard also seemed to be everywhere in the middle of the field, linking the defence and attack. It was great to see such numbers available for selection today, and it was a confidence-boosting display against a Junior A side. We are out again next weekend, away to Mungret.

LONDON INTERMEDIATE HURLING FINAL: Congratulations to clubman Ronan Liston who won a London Intermediate hurling medal at the weekend as his Sean Treacy’s side defeated Fulham Irish in the final by 2-11 to 1-5. Ronan lined out at wing-back and it’s good to see our clubmen flourish all over the world!

 

U-9 HURLING: Our U-9s brought four teams (28 players in total) to St. Patrick’s for their first hurling blitz of the season. It’s absolutely fantastic to have such big numbers at this age group; well done to all involved on a great showing and to all their coaches too.

 

U-11 HURLING: Our U-11s also had their first outing in the glorious sunshine in Kildimo on Thursday evening as we welcomed Claughaun. We fielded two 12-a-side teams; again, great to have so many young players involved. Next week, the attention of our U-11s turns to football against St. Patrick’s. Well done to all players and coaches; it’s great to be up and running once again!

 

CLOTHES COLLECTION: Our clothes collection has once again commenced; thanks to everyone who contributed to our last efforts. Drop-offs available or collection if required.
