Ballinamore's Tom Prior holds possession for Leitrim against Mayo in the Connacht senior football championship semi-final at MacHale Park

Ballinamore Sean O’Heslins are through to the Leitrim senior football championship final after an impressive display against St Mary’s Kiltoghert this evening in Carrick-on-Shannon.

It finished 3-15 to 0-9 at Pairc Sean Diarmada, where two first-half goals from Mark McGrory made it comfortable for the winners in this last four clash of the runners up from the past two seasons.

Points from Tom Prior saw Ballinamore lead by 0-5 to 0-3 on 21 minutes when McGrory rattled the Saints’ net with a fine finish.

Luke Murphy (2 frees) and McGrory stretched the lead to eight before the latter hammered in his second goal, sending Ballinamore towards a commanding 2-9 to 0-4 lead at the break.

Alan Doherty got an early second-half point on the board for St Mary’s but there would be no stopping their opponents on this occasion, as Prior, Murphy and Niall McGovern all shot points ahead of their third goal going in which was enough to cement a comfortable victory.

Chasing their first senior crown since 1990, Ballinamore now await either holders Mohill or Leitrim Gaels in the final as the latter two cross swords tomorrow at 2.30pm.
