Zach Tuohy has signed a one-year contract extension with AFL Premiership champions Geelong.

The former Laois underage star marked his 250th AFL appearance with an outstanding performance in last month's Grand Final victory over Sydney Swans. He amassed 21 disposals as he and his Cats team-mate Mark O'Connor became only the second and third Irish Premiership winners after Tadhg Kennelly.

Tuohy's new deal means he is in line to surpass Jim Stynes' appearance record (264 games) for an Irish player in the AFL.

"Zach Tuohy has committed to another year at the Cats, his 13th overall, after playing his 250th game in last month's Grand Final, placing him within just 14 games of the legendary Jim Stynes for the most games played by an Irishman," Geelong said in a statement announcing five re-signings this morning.
