Kilkenny are Leinster senior hurling champions for the third year in-a-row after overcoming Galway by 0-22 to 0-17 at Croke Park.

TJ Reid notched a dozen points for the Cats as they were able to keep their opponents at bay from the second minute onwards and earn their county’s 74th provincial crown.

Galway saw goal chances go by the wayside during the opening half at headquarters, with Eoin Murphy denying Joseph Cooney the net with a fine stop, and the frees of Reid and points from Paddy Deegan and Martin Keoghan saw Brian Cody’s men take in a 0-11 to 0-9 lead at the half.

Reid added another to his tally early in the restart ahead of a brace from Conor Whelan making it a one-point game, but that was about as good as it got for the Tribesmen whom were unquestionably second best in this decider.

Adrian Mullen and Reid (2 frees) made it a three-point game again and an expertly converted ‘65’ was backed up by another free from the latter 0-20 to 0-15 with four minutes left in regulation time.

Two Cooney frees kept Henry Shefflin’s men in with a chance but Padraig Walsh and Mullen sailed over the last two scores to ensure the 18th Bob O’Keeffe Cup of Cody’s reign.
