Ballyhale Shamrocks are expected to appeal the straight red card issued to Joe Cuddihy in yesterday’s Leinster club SHC semi-final extra-time win over St Rynagh’s

The wing forward was dismissed in first half injury-time for a high challenge on Matthew Maloney in front of the linesman on the stand side of Bord na Mona O’Connor Park. Many observers felt a yellow card would have been sufficient punishment but, as things stand, he’s suspended for next Sunday’s provincial final against Clough-Ballacolla in Croke Park.

Having played the entire second half of normal time with 14 men, the back-to-back All-Ireland champions were restored to 15 players for extra-time and duly outscored their Offaly opponents by 0-11 to 0-2 after a last-gasp Eoin Cody goal had saved their bacon in normal time.
