Late points from Harry Shine and Ted Dunne were enough for Kilkenny to hold off Wexford in the Leinster MHC final at Netwatch Cullen Park this evening.

Captain Shine struck six points from frees and Dunne chipped in with 1-1 as the Cats claimed back-to-back provincial titles this month with a 1-15 to 2-10 victory.

The sides were tied on 1-5 apiece at half-time. Dunne fired the winners in front before Wexford replied in kind immediately when Adam O'Grady's booted effort beat goalkeeper Alan Dunphy.

Simon Roche added a second Wexford goal three minutes after the restart to hand his side the lead for the first time in the game, 2-5 to 1-5.

The Model County could have had further goals if it wasn't for a couple of fine saves by Dunphy as the Cats closed the gap to a single point by the second water-break.

A Danny Glennon point levelled things up down the home straight and the corner-forward sent over his second to put Kilkenny back in front.

Shine and Dunne tagged on scores though Kilkenny were left hanging on after Dunphy came to the rescue with another brilliant stop.
