All tonight's U20HC results as Kilkenny and Offaly progress to Leinster semi-finals

July 13, 2021

Kilkenny and Offaly advance.

Kilkenny will face Galway in the semi-finals of the Leinster U20 hurling championship in seven days' time.

The Cats held off a spirited Laois performance to record a 1-18 to 1-15 win at UPMC Nowlan Park this evening. Conor Kelly's goal gave Derek Lyng's charges an early advantage but Laois held a narrow 0-11 to 1-7 lead at half-time.

The teams were on level terms (1-11 to 0-14) by the 46th minute before Kilkenny fired six points in succession to take control. Dan Delaney netted the Laois goal via the penalty spot to reduce the deficit to three but that was as close as they got in the end.

The other semi-final will be contested between holders Dublin and Offaly after the latter romped to an impressive 2-25 to 1-16 victory over surprise packets Kildare in Tullamore. The sides were actually level at half-time, 0-11 apiece, but a 50th minute DJ McLoughlin goal pushed Offaly clear before Joe Ryan wrapped up the win with a second in injury-time.

Elsewhere tonight, there were quarter-final wins for Meath, Down, Sligo and Derry in the Richie McElligott Cup (All-Ireland U20HC B).
