Maynooth continue impressive turnaround as they reach Kildare SFC semi-finals

October 03, 2021

Maynooth duo Neil Flynn and Mark Donnellan.

Maynooth's impressive form continued today, as they beat St Laurence's 2-11 to 0-11 to reach the Kildare SFC semi-finals.

After a disappointing 2020 championship campaign that left the university town club facing a relegation play-off, manager Declan McCabe has revived their fortunes this season.

Ahead 1-6 to 0-6 at half-time, goals either side of the break from Eoin Donnellan and Sean Hever laid the groundwork for Maynooth's path to the last four.

Sarsfields are also safely through to the next stage after seeing off Raheens 2-15 to 0-7.

'The Sash' sent out a statement of intent from the early stages as they raced into a 0-12 to 0-0 lead at the break.

In the last part of a quarter-final triple-header at St Conleth's Park today, reigning champions Athy needed an injury-time point to squeeze past Clane 1-15 to 0-17.

Following their 0-11 to 1-7 preliminary win over Round Towers yesterday, Carbury will face Naas in the remaining last-eight clash next weekend.

Also on Saturday, a Jack Robinson-inspired Clogherinkoe preserved their senior status with a comfortable 3-13 to 0-10 victory over Castledermot.
