For the second successive year, Tipperary required extra-time before eventually seeing off Waterford in the Munster U20 hurling championship.

The sides produced an absolutely thrilling 80 minutes of hurling, but in the end there could only be one winner as Tipp came from behind to beat the Deise by 3-24 to 2-21.

It had finished 2-15 apiece in normal-time after Waterford substitute Sean Walsh netted a levelling goal in the dying seconds and they carried their momentum into extra-time to lead by four. However, the pendulum swung back in Tipperary favour when substitute Jack Leamy's 68th minute goal put his side on level terms by half-time in extra-time at 3-17 to 2-20.

A Max Hackett goal after just six seconds handed Tipp a perfect start to the contest before Sean Hayes raised their second green flag with the last puck of the first-half as they led 2-6 to 0-5 at the break. Michael Kiely pulled one back for Waterford on the resumption.

Elsewhere, Clare were impressive in this evening's other quarter-final at Austin Stack Park, as they came away with a 2-20 to 0-15 win over Kerry without having to overly exert themselves against Fintan O'Connor's side. Two goals in a minute from Oisin O'Donnell and top-scorer Shane Punch, who was the Banner County's scorer in chief, striking 1-8, had put them firmly in control at half-time, 2-15 to 0-5.
