No Galway return for Donoghue

Former Galway manager Mícheál Donoghue

Mícheál Donoghue has withdrawn from the race to become the next Galway senior hurling manager.

Galway Bay FM is reporting that the 2017 All-Ireland winning supremo has informed Tribesmen officials that he does not want to proceed any further in the process to find a replacement for Shane O’Neill.

Other names linked with the vacancy include Davy Fitzgerald, Johnny Kelly, Brian Hanley and Jeffrey Lynskey.

Galway County Board had hoped to be in a position to announce a new hurling manager within the next week following a round of interviews with the respective candidates in recent days.

Donoghue – who masterminded the county’s first Liam MacCarthy Cup success in 29 years – was understood to be their number one choise so it remains to be seen if his u-turn delays the unveiling of O'Neill's successor.
