Galway ladies star Sinead Burke has announced her retirement from inter-county football.

One of the longest serving players in the game, Burke made her senior debut for the Tribeswomen back in 2007, and went on to win nine Connacht SFC titles, two as captain.

After years of brilliance, the Oughterard native finally received All-Star recognition when selected at left corner back on the 2018 team. There was a second All Star award in 2019 when she helped Galway reach the All-Ireland SFC decider for the first time in 14 years.

Burke made her final appearance in the maroon and white colours in the All-Ireland SFC semi-final last December in Croke Park where Galway lost to Cork in controversial circumstances. At club level, the 31-year-old currently lines out for Armagh Harps with whom she won an Armagh SFC title last year.
