I don't think so, Kingdom Boy. Iran is one of the worst affected countries and it is a lot, lot hotter there than in Ireland. Ditto Spain and Italy.

I'm not an expert Kboy but the whole strategy is to flatten the infection curve over a longer period of time to give the HSE a chance to handle the numbers. When it will end, who knows. It will be months at best, and I expect they will be wary of a second wave after people start moving around again so I don't think GAA will be a priority whatsoever.

I don't know about heat killing it, it's rampant in Australia and they have temperatures at the minute similar to our summers.

It's a pure curse, hard to believe this is happening.

Yeah football will be the least of our worries if a family member or friend gets very sick. It must be terrifying.

Even if they get the go ahead to play sport again at some stage in 2020 teams will not have trained together in months. Gyms are even closed and there is only so much lads can do at home to stay match fit. The more you think about it the more unlikely it seems that we will see any top level GAA in 2020

It's like something out of a bad film. Though that film "Outbreak" wasn't too bad I suppose. Sigh.

I know, it's like a fella said to me yesterday that he felt like we should be able to hear Morgan freeman's voice narrating this.

Prime Minister in my neck of the woods spoke this morning. As of Wednesday, people will not be allowed to go to the supermarket without using a mask (to be provided by the supermarket). According to the Deputy PM, protecting the mouth and nose in the public sphere is crucial to bringing the infection rate down.

Supermarkets will also be taking steps to enforce the 1 metre distancing rule, which seemingly is not being obeyed by everyone.

Hotels will not be allowed to take customers, and some of them will be repurposed as temporary medical facilities.

Seemingly, the enforcement of the temporary rules has not been uniform in all parts of the country, but this is being remedied.

The government will also step up testing and will also have antibody tests available, showing if someone already contracted the virus.

We also have Europe's biggest open-air concert here, which has been postponed til late September (for now).

The current measures will not be eased before Easter and are also not likely to be eased quickly after Easter.

As we are a few weeks ahead of Ireland in terms of the lockdown, it's not inconceivable that some of these measures may be introduced there at a later stage.

Keep safe, folks.

I wonder have the premier league thought about finishing the season with the players wearing zorb ball suits!

It would be both hilarious and safe, it wouldn't work for our GAA or rugby though..

Thoughts?

Where's the end to all this ?

Do we all have to catch it and then see who's left ?

Jeez - it's only been two weeks but it already seems like a lifetime ....

I'd say we could lose dave Moran but he's the only 1 I can think of from kerry, maybe Shane Enright as well."
To be honest I wouldn't have a clue who would, if anyone, retire this year. If you look at the age of the panel I think T. J. Reid is the oldest at 32. So I can't see anyone retiring because of age. But other factors come in to when a player decides to retire; constant injuries, dropped from the starting 15, or outside reasons.

A very good post from Zinny on the Wexford forum:

I think the one thing that has not yet been discussed is how Covid 19 will change the rules and behavior of our games.

The most basic one - nobody will be allowed share water bottles. This will have a major impact as players will have to have one bottle assigned to them and only be allowed use that one. The water man with his single bottle will be gone as there is no way he can use it. Does it mean specific water breaks during a game? who knows.

All pitches were games are played will have to be fenced and only players and management allowed into the grounds. After game pitch incursions at all levels have to go.

Shaking of hands before and after games will have to stop.

Spitting at a player - thankfully not something you often see but the penalty will have to be even more severe.

Spitting or spitting out of water after drinking etc all have to stop on the pitch - this will be a hard one for some people to stop but stop it has to.

Players who are not feeling well or just recovered from illness should have a minimum amount of time before they go back to training - hard to police but we all know that we and other lads when out on the pitch not 100%.

Swapping jerseys - gone.

Those are some of the items I can think about however if there is one major lesson that could be taken from this is that people do not obey rules or advice unless there is serious consequences and even then, some idiots still don't. Translate that to the pitch and you see the same, unless the consequences for breaking the rules are tough and enforced nothing changes, stop making excuses, such as it was an accident or he didn't mean it.  I am sure nobody doesn't deliberately wash their hands but they do forget.  Forgetting can have tragic consequences.

Load of nonsense. Of course these things will resume AFTER this has well passed. That probably won't be until next year of course which is why there may well be no resumption of games until next year.

Sure if all those measures Zinny listed were necessary precautions that had to be taken then logically close marking would have to go as well. Will the GAA be bringing a rule in to say all players must remain a minimum of two metres away from all other players on the field, including their own team mates?!
