Delay in Wexford

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

What's the delay in Wexford in appointing a new senior hurling manager? Everyone else seems to have gotten their house in order by now. Hope they haven't missed the boat! Maybe they're hoping Liam Dunne will do it if Oulart lose against James Stephens? I think Oulart can win that actually especially with Jackie Tyrell being suspended. They should've beaten O'Loughlins last year!

They are probably still looking for someone who wants it.

keeper7 they are certainly not hoping Oulart are bet on Sunday. Think the whole county wants to see them win, anything which can provide a boost for hurling in the county is welcome.
But in answer to your first question, it's hard to know. They are probably waiting to see if Oulart win or lose on Sunday, but Liam Dunne has said in local papers that he is not interested in the job. Apart from that, I'd say getting people who are interested in the job could be the problem they are having. All sorts of names are being mentioned in the county but seems to be no real progress on the matter.
Another way of looking at it, there is no immediate panic as all the club matches are now finished for the year.

its a pity that the new man wasn't able to see some decent club matches. I think they are waitin to see if cody will stay on wit kk. I know thers no chanxe but it would be quare cool if he came to a county lik wexford and see what hes made of.

There's a training ban in place until the new year so there should be no hurry anyways, should there?

I can't see Cody going to another county, even if his wife is from Wexford. Despite what Dunne has said, I can see him managing the county team at some stage. A Leinster title for Oulart would be a big lift for the whole county, starting with a win this weekend. They left it behind them last year.

What sort of standered is the club championship in Wexford at the moment?

I wish I knew what the delay was. But as doublehop pointed out, there's a winter ban anyway so there's no rush.

I would rather they take the time to find the right manager than to throw any Tom, Dick or Harry in there just to keep it ticking over. I think we need someone high profile (O Grady or English for example) or if a former KK great wants to show us how to hurl like they do, I will lay down the red carpet on the border for him and I don't care if there's a treasonous acetone in saying that, I want us to return to former highs

And Wexford aren't the only ones guilty of delays anyway, as another poster stated Offaly have no manager at present either & Gilroy appears to be making a drama of it at this stage.

Would I be wrong in assuming the majority of the Dubs would like to know one way or the other at this stage?

moomoo, Oulart are dominant at the moment but are by far the hardest working club team in the county and deserve the success they are getting.

Apart from that, there are maybe 5-6 teams of the same standard below them, anything could happen on any given day. Then there are another group of teams fighting for survival in senior hurling. 3 were relegated this year, 2 clubs blessed to stay in senior were Ferns and Shelmaliers.

Senior hurling has now been reduced to 12 teams which will create a more competitive championship, but Oulart will continue to dominate for a couple of years yet I think.

Biggest problem with club hurling in Wexford is the stop-start nature of it. Long delays ruin it.

I see. I ask because i feel the same thing is holding Kerry hurling back only 1/2 teams do any work wile the others just play for the craic more then anything. If Ballyduff were to win on Sunday and make the Munster final it may give it the boost it needs. Also what sort of standerd is schools hurling in Wexford?

schools hurling is of a reasonable standard with good counsel new ross and st peters wexford the two main teams. while both schools are able to produce strong teams they still struggle to beat the kilkenny schools. good counsel contested and all ireland final 3years ago but their teams usually contain 50%kilkenny and carlow players

Again just asking as there is a Kerry colleges team in the Harty Cup for the last 2/3 years and its very badly run, no real training etc. Again something that is holding back Kerry hurling

It is ridiculous as we were knocked out of the championship four months back. I am not blaming the committee formed to find the manager. That comm should have been formed immediately after Colm Bonnar resigned. Waterford for example had a replacement long ago. It is a disgraceful scenario.

Offaly have now confirmed their new football manager. Wexford have had more time than most to get their house in order. They even have their minor team management in place! Does noone want the job?

Incidentally, Armagh have announced a very impressive backroom team for their senior hurlers as have Kerry.

juniorbsub;

any manager who wants to develop a talented young hurling team and restore the fortunes of a once proud hurling county. Im sure there have been plenty of applicants but i do believe indecision is causing this delay as well as the fact were waiting to see how oulart perform in leinster... ITS A FARCE.

Well said Cragask. It's taking it's time but will probably take longer after today, but we'll not complain!

While Jackie Tyrell was a big loss to James Stephens yesterday, Oulart's win (in Nowlan Park!) is still a big boost to Wexford hurling. They need to kick on now & at least win Leinster.
