My day for coaching will come. If Tipp have more lads willing to coach than Wexford that's not my problem. Seems an unnecessary jibe but anyway, I'll make no apology for travelling and enjoying life. I did my bit too as a player, more than many. And will do more.
Tipp won 4 All-Irelands since we won our last. Population of Wexford is 163,919, population of Tipp is 167,895. We should have as many hurlers as they do. Its no excuse. We're just a mile off the pace at every level."
And as regards total population we would have a far higher percentage of our population who arent GAA minded than Tipp does. Soccer is huge in our urban areas relative to theirs, we have a far higher percentage of our population travelling community, and a large proportion of our population growth came from Eastern Europe and Dublin, neither hurling strongholds, to quote Michael O'Muircheartaigh.

Wex has a population of 60k bigger than KK, 35k than Clare, same as Tipp.

Yes, but remember there are 11 Senior All Irelands won by Wexford teams to Clares Five. Kilkenny, have a great record, but they won their last Senior Championship game in Football almost a hundred years ago, had their Last Rugby International about 1980 and no Soccer History of note. And remember success breeds success.
Cork have probably more Hurlers than the rest of Munster put together and yet are down for two decades.
As Mick Mackey once said, when a great group of players come along at the same time, a lot can be avhieved. A good team can be unlucky too, if an exceptional one comes along at the same time

Firstly to say we're miles of the pace at every level is just not objectively true. Equally, we're nowhere near I think we can be, or I'd like us to be.

Not the point anyway. The point I'm making is that our Sunday league soccer is the largest in the country outside Dublin. We're also a dual county in the true sense, in that pretty much all of our players play both codes which isn't the case for most dual counties nevermind hurling counties. We're also pretty big geographically in terms of where our hurlers are coming from.

These things do nothing for hurling in Wexford but that's not an excuse either.

We need to get the best out of what we have first, and we're not doing that for a number of reasons, most of which are within our own control.

They've very little football and almost no soccer, both of which are larger than hurling for participation in Wexford.

That is exact the point it was making. Soccer is ruining my own club.

I see Kilkenny beat Kildare by four points in the Walsh Shield Final

Don't know how much we should make of that (And what it means for us come Championship if anything)

Kildare had 9 of their Joe McDonagh-winning team starting and another three of their subs who came on in the final also started today so looks like they went strong enough

Kilkenny had Eoin Murphy, Mikey Carey, Stephen Donnelly, Darragh Corcoran, Jordan Molloy, Cian Kenny, Stephen Donnelly, and Mossy Keoghan starting, they were the only ones starting for them who I say have a good bit of experience, also had younger lads like Killian Doyle, Peter McDonald, and Marty Murphy starting

2 strong teams, with likely over 20 lads who played in the game who will play in the Leinster Championship this year.

They do, especially in South Tipp. But they've way more hurlers than we have, twice as many approximately.

They bought on Eoin Cody second half made the difference what it means for us is zero heavy pitch dont know what heavy training both teams are at in Summer they will both be different animals but so will we so just have to wait and see.

There's a study on it from 2022. Tipp, Galway, Kilkenny, cork and Dublin all have twice as many hurlers as we do. Oddly enough we're the only one of those counties in which the game of hurling has not grown since 1993 when the same study was done previously.

I still stand by my original point that Sunday league soccer in Wexford is a monster for a county of our size. Also I'd argue we're the true dual county in that pretty much all of our players play both codes which is not the case in other parts of the country.

Surely not. We have the 6th most Football AIs and the 5th most hurling AIs.

The hard part is adding to those.

And thats up to all the people of the county to put the time in. Younger lads practicing to get better, and older lads coaching and encouraging them better.

None of it is really rocket science.

I was going to say I'd be surprised if most of that KK were starting come Championship time but I had a look at who they were missing from the All-Ireland SF last year and it looks like a good chunk of those playing today for them will be playing in the summer

I don't think they'll be experimenting too much in the league either
