I don't think either of ye understood what I'm saying. Waterford in particular had their season on the line so there was no shortage of motivation, how would relegation have changed it. If they weren't motivated last week then there's no hope for them

I think they believed deep down that Cork would beat Tipp. Tipp were pretty poor this year.

All provinces are treated the same in that the Top 5 in each retain their status. The McDonagh winner would be like a floating voter. If Kerry win the McDonagh, Munster has 6 teams for a year. If any other county wins the McDonagh, it is Leinster that has 6 teams.
The McDonagh winner determining the province with 6 teams is the fairest solution under the current structure."
Makes sense

That would be an improvement. It's definitely still not perfect though. The 5th placed team in Leinster would be getting a bit of a free ride then for a year.

Kerry would be huge underdogs to stay up relative to their chances if they were going into the Leinster championship themselves.

There's a thread on knockout provincials followed by 2 groups of 6 organised nationally and I think that would be the fairest solution.

Or a solution that also incorporated provincial results into a national championship table with much more flexibility on the numbers in each championship.

Joe Mcdonagh is a wonderful competition that is helping the counties 10-15 improve their hurling. Some of the most entertaining hurling games are in it.The only problem is Kerry and Munster. But we are hurling people and want to help each other so my suggestion is if Kerry win Joe Mac let them into Leinster IF Kerry want that. After all we have Galway and Antrim and Down if they won Joe Mac so what's the difference except the Munster council?

Thanks for the kind offer!
We should enter Munster however, no matter how difficult it is.
If Leinster wants to always remain at 6 teams, an option is that if Kerry win the McDonagh some year, the McDonagh can reduce to 5 for a year with the Munster Championship expanding to 6. Munster should only have 6 teams for a year however. Whoever finishes 6th however would have to be relegated.
In summary:
Humble option 1 = McDonagh winner determining province with 6 teams.
Humble option 2 = If Kerry win the McDonagh, McDonagh reduces to 5 and Munster expands to 6 for one year.

These are fair options for everyone, depending on which way the wind is blowing.
