Yeah in fairness it must be very difficult to get the balance right.

On the one hand you want county players getting a fair amount of games for the efforts that they put in. The GAA also has a very important obligation towards its own finances. Which is why the decision to play the Leinster final at the same time as Leinster play the European Cup final is particularly baffling. They'll lose out on the actual attendance and also viewing figures.

Then there's the club situation of course. Looking back to my own playing days there was nothing worse than finishing out meaningless club league games in horrible winter conditions. I think it's good that club league games are going ahead in Donegal without the county players at present. They'll all be back in good time for Club Championship.

But I do think the GAA need to tweak the calendar another wee bit next year so that county football is not competing with the end of season drama in soccer and other sports.

The GAA have gone from extreme to another - a too long county season to a too short a season- extend the county season by 4 weeks to Mid August, most counties will be able to play a lot earlier as they will be well out of championships come mid to late July not like counties finished in May like both Waterford Hurlers & footballers this year -tipp hurlers etc etc.
All the GAA games this weekend and recent weeks are been lost to so much of the sporting public with Premiership run ins-Rugby finals etc. Rugby friends cant believe what the GAA are at - reducing their shop window product to 2/3 months.

The best date for the final is bank holiday Sunday in August.
The tailteann cup final should be on the Saturday of the same weekend. Ideally with the all ireland U20 final on the same day.

This craic of running off the U20 championship before the senior championship is nonsense.
It should be played over the summer and if a lad is needed for the seniors then he doesn't play U20.
If the county manager wants to keep a load of 19 year old lads from playing U20 so he can have them sitting on the bench beside him then he should be sacked anyway.

That most counties (bar those players in the finals) take in the Galway races and first weekend of August for holiday before championship starts.
Most championships aren't starting until September anyway

Totally agree. Every club player can get his summer holiday in before club championship. It would also allow students to head Stateside and still be back for their club too maybe.
