If you don't know that then you must have been living under a rock.

Sadly the abuse comes in all shapes and forms and it's all horrible stuff, even sectarian in this case from years ago.

Replying To moc.dna:  "The GAA is the worst sport now for sledging. Whether it's lads calling lads Proddies or West Brits, sledging is just a cowardly act. The GAA are turning a blind eye, as well as refs & nothing is being done about it, the disciplinary system is a mess. Managers are encouraging it as well, every score or wide or substitution is met with a physical challenge & lads roaring abuse or laughing in lads faces.
The GAA make a big deal about Respect, well there is none of it in GAA with the level of sledging.

I saw a young lad come off a field with the backs of his legs & ankles raked with studs, covered in bruises from pinches & covered in spit, along with constant abuse in his ear, all just to win a final. Complaints to the ref & chairman of the opposing club were laughed at. Young lad no longer bothers playing.

The sad thing about this post is that highlights what a divided nation we are, politically, socially, economically & sporting wise. If Putin invaded Ireland we wouldn't be like the Ukrainians with their national pride & willing to fight & die, we would have to have a civil war amongst ourselves first before we would fight back. Ireland has become a mess & we can see it in these posts & even at GAA level.

Anyone guilty of this cowardly sledging should be ashamed of themselves, a yellow act, they should get life bans, sportsmanship in GAA is dead. It can be seen on TV every w'end in the Inter County games. The GAA have no intention of taking action as it would be an admission of something been seriously wrong."
Strong words there & if 1/2 of it is even true then there really is a problem in GAA

I would agree that sledging is being encouraged by managers its nasty & cowardly, vile really ,could you imagine TJ Reid doing this absolutely not, what kind of fool does it ?

Like everything else it can be stamped out if there a will there's a way.

I have seen some great players being targeted by sneaky pinching dragging walking on back of heels ect no protection from referees why have 7 officials at game if they cant report & stop it.

Well done for these strong condemnation i don't know if all of this is true but well called out

Depressing story and it doesn't look like we've made much progress in 15 years. That lad shouldve been commended and welcomed for wanting to play our games after what he went through. But typical narrow minded louts seem to be everywhere in Ireland unfortunately. The UDR played a very dark role in the troubles but so did many others. At least you condem abuse across the board Joxer, unlike a few others on here who are making a real show of themselves at this stage.

I'd agree. Some people have made themselves look incredibly ignorant in this thread.
I can never understand why some people can't bring themselves to condemn all types of abuse, regardless of where it comes from. We all know it's wrong.
They have to go off on a tangent about something vaguely related, to make their ignorant point.
E.g. Someone from a northern county raises an issue about sectarian comments. The response is, 'ah but Tyrone did........ etc', as if it's somehow relevant.
The same applies to other way around and any other scenario. I'm assuming most of us been called things during games when we played, but most of it is harmless enough. It's the nasty personal stuff or anything related to a person's background that needs to be stamped out ASAP.
I've been at matches where I've heard very derogatory remarks from supporters of my own county. It's been rare thankfully, but on these occasions the people have been challenged by those around them, fellow Galway supporters, which is good to see.

They remind me of our politicians up here. Always whataboutary and deflection when they hear anything they don't like hearing. Ironically the same ones telling Ulster posters to stop living in the past etc when their posts are just like the backward politicians holding us back from a better future.

Your last point is most relevant.

All counties have their eijits, especially in Summer when there's drink on board and lots of young fellas around. Have seen it with Dubs obviously but also some unpleasantness at hurling at big games.

The main factor is indeed - whether it's the Hill or Thurles - is that most people will not tolerate it, and it's usually nipped in bud. We are fortunate to still live in a country where sports events are like that.

Add in the biggest eejit's usually don't follow club football, and WE definitely have our fair shower of them.

You were asking for examples were you not? Or does it not count when it's to others from Ulster?

No I had asked you to provide examples which you clearly couldn't do.

So then you just jumped on the back of someone else's post.

Next time you decide you want to debate with big boys then do a little research first. You are very tedious and I am now bored with you.

Were is my old mate Fridge when I need him? Now that is a man who you can have a proper row with!

Hi Wally - still hear lad. We have had many a battle over the years - mostly in jest and good spirit.

I agree with everything you said on this topic - some in hear like to twist the narrative to suit their point. Ignorant but what can you do.

So you're not going to address it then?

Again live in your little world where only Ulster teams are the victims of this. People have shown you examples here but you've just chosen to ignore them.

What's your view on sportsmen from South talking about we when he's talking about England. At 4-15 today Mick Fitzgerald was talking about "we " when adding up English Cheltenham winners, of course Tony Mc Coy soon put him in his place .
