A lot of posters went against Clare but they had a comfortable win against Offaly in Ennis today so a good start for the Banner.

Started well against your boys.

You are correct about my predictions not being great.
Got it drastically wrong about Dublin, Meath and Longford.
Fairly spot on with Limerick though

I wouldn't be using our boys as the measure of table topping capability.

Div 3 is a real minefield at this stage - any thoughts on who'll get promoted?

I'll take a punt on Fermanagh and Limerick, but as you say a complete minefield.

Thankfully Division 4 is looking a bit more straightforward for ourselves at least. I think Tipp will join us.

Division 2 is 2 from 3. I fancy the rossies to squeeze in ahead of Galway.

Kerry and Mayo to make the D1 final.

10 points is normally the total that gains promotion and looking at Galway opening 5 fixtures: Meath (H) Down (A) Offaly (H) Cork (A) Clare (H) a strong possibility that Galway will get at least 8 points from those fixtures"
I said earlier in the thread that we could win our first 5 games and not get promoted. That could still easily happen. If we beat Clare and then lose in Roscommon and up in Derry, we'll likely finish 3rd, unless one of them slips up badly elsewhere.
There will be no promotion won with a couple of games to spare in Division 2 this year.

You said plenty of points would be dropped in the first 5 games and that Galway had very tough games against the likes of Down, Cork.

In reality no points was dropped by Galway and those tough games was comfortable wins and that's due to a having a stronger squad with plenty of players having divsion 1 experience. Conroy, Comer, Walsh, Sean Kelly etc are leading by example.

Beat Clare at home and Derry away and Galway will have promotion secured with a game to spare

I said I could see points being dropped in those games, including versus Derry and Roscommon who we haven't played yet. As it happened Down, Cork and Meath have been very poor, but Cork still ran up a big score against us. Offaly also scored plenty against us.
I also said we could won our first 5 games and not get promoted. That's absolutely still a possibility.
Derry have been the standout team so far. They've been very tight defensively as well as scoring plenty. Beating them away would a very good result for us. If we don't, it'll come down to the last game against the Rossies.

Before the start of the league, I put a few euro on an accumulator with Kerry to win the League, Derry, Westmeath & Leitrim to be promoted. 43/1... Admittedly Div 3 & 4 are now looking to be the shaky parts of that bet but it's still all to play for.

Decent shout that, but I'd cash out now if you can. Leitrim will finish 4th at best. Westmeath 5th or 6th.

I'd love to see limerick get promoted to div2 after all the players who opted out.

Clare are safe I'd say maybe 1 more win.

Cork should just. About scape to safety.

Allianz Football League Division 2 round 5
Down v Offaly, Pairc Esler, Saturday -5pm -basement clash, Offaly seem to be improving but this is a long way from home away game, everything here points to a draw - even the tables they are identical in all stats..a draw no use to either -Down might sneak it at home but Ime going for a draw -Offaly 2-10 Down 1-13
Sundays games:
Galway v Clare, Pearse Stadium, 2pm - disapointed in Clare losing by so much to Derry - but Clare have done what was needed in this division in some of their games - cant see them winning here though _ Galway 2-15 Clare 0-12
Meath v Cork, Pairc Tailteann, 2pm - TG4 app (deferred coverage on TG4 from 5.35pm) - God be with the days when this would be a clash of the two best teams in the country and guaranteed an epic - it will be close for sure but not the same glamour as late 80s or early 90s..Meath have better scoring difference and ultimately that points towards Meath winning here...cant figure out Cork at all..Meath 2-12 Cork 0-10
Roscommon v Derry, Dr Hyde Park, 2pm - Derry coming into a tricky game here - Roscommon can hit nice tallies on any given day - but so can Derrry who are top..I think Derry score that little bit more freely and should get a win here - draw very possible - Roscommon 1-12 Derry 2-15.

Tipp seems to have turned around what was looking like an awful season. With Carlow and London in Thurles to come - promotion suddenly is now very much in their own hands. The depth in the panel isnt what it was but having the regulars back has certainly made a huge difference. Div. 3 I dont feel is very strong this year - it'll be a tougher division next year by the looks of it.

You obviously didn't rate our defence to highly when predicting Derry would score more against us than they managed to score against Down, Offaly, Clare and Cork.

Highest score we conceded in this league campaign thus far was 1-10 and have conceded 11 points per game average.
