Ticket Allocations To Clubs For All-Ireland Finals

(Oldest Posts First)

Question inspired by something written by a Donegal poster on the thread about smallest club in each county:
In terms of population, the smallest pick would be Pettigo, followed by Na Rossa. Pettigo area has a population of around 500, Na Rossa is around 600. They are the only two teams who can't field a reserve team at senior level. When tickets were allocated to clubs for the All Ireland final, Pettigo had the lowest allocation and Na Rossa second lowest.

Suggests that allocations to clubs are based on the size of clubs?

Here in Wexford, has always been the case that every club gets equal numbers of tickets for the All-Ireland hurling and football finals, regardless of their size. The smallest club in the county would get exactly the same as the largest.

Always struck me as a little unfair. Am in a relatively large rural club myself, for example, and most of our neighbours are relatively small, yet they get the same tickets as we do.

When a crowd was first allowed into Croke Park this year (for Leinster hurling semi-finals), each club here was allocated 15 tickets. We had almost 50 inquiries, while one of our neighbours literally couldn't give them away in their own area. We ended up taking some of theirs, to pass on to our own members/supporters.

Just wondering how it's done in other counties?

In Mayo senior clubs get a larger allocation than intermediate or junior clubs. The three biggest town clubs also get a few extra tickets.

There are also guaranteed tickets for anyone who has played a senior championship game for Mayo.

You're damned if you do and damned if you don't in any case. This year, season ticket holders are seriously browned off with the mere 1,000 tickets they got (we have 3,600 season ticket holders) and I can kind of see where they're coming from. They travel the length and breadth of the island to follow Mayo and not to get a ticket for the biggest day of the year must grate.

But you also have to consider all the volunteers in clubs. Not an easy balance to strike.
