Condolences to the McCartan family on their loss. A member of the great Down team from 1960/1961. Great games with Offaly in those breakthrough years. MicktheMiller (Offaly) - Posts: 421 - 14/08/2021 21:12:13 2371088 Link 1 |

Very sad to read this, condolences to his family and friends, Some contribution by two generations of the McCartan family to Down GAA, Think his brother Dan was one of just four to play throughout the 1960s and win 3 All Ireland medals, Often wondered if James was out injured in '68 as he was was still scoring well in '67 and would have been some years younger than Joe Lennon and Paddy Doherty who both featured in the 1968 victory. Artisan. I may be wrong. but I seem to remember reading somewhere that the O'Neills and the McCartans were first cousins. Could you confirm that
