There are no effects worth talking about, unless you want to change the story after this post to "preventing the spread of covid to the elderly or vulnerable" which is all well and good if they are unvaccinated. They are vaccinated btw.

That statement is backed up by the WHOs stats.

Being vaccinated doesnt stop you from catching covid or passing it on. I know personally several people who have got and spread covid months after their second vaccine.

There is no way I would want Galway to be awarded an All Ireland by default, On the other hand there are very serious implications if county teams are rewarded for breaking Covid rules (the only possible way that everyone could be a close contact). onlyhurling (Galway) - Posts: 800 - 04/08/2021 14:02:11 2367565 Link 0 |
If was any other county walkover would stand. Congrats to Galway. kerry4sam21 (Kerry) - Posts: 103 - 04/08/2021 21:47:44 2367778 Link 0 |
No they shouldn't. If there is a possibility of completing the competitions then they should be completed. That is the least the players who have worked so hard to get to this point in the competitions deserve. The club competitions are an entirely separate issue. I can't understand why Dublin had to play a Leinster senior hurling final whilst they were short four first team players and Tyrone had to play an Ulster senior football final when they were short three first choice players yet Cork are granted a postponement for an U20 hurling final when they have one case of Covid in the camp. I'm not looking to cause a row but can someone come someone explain the why in all of this to me please. Thank you in anticipation.

John Horan made it clear last year that the only games that would be rearranged if there was Covid issues in a camp were All-Ireland semi finals and finals, and postponements for other games would be considered if there was sufficient time in the calendar. You can agree or disagree with the approach but that was the arrangement. I think the postponement here makes sense, and don't blame Cork for the situation they find themselves in, but I do think Galway should have been given home advantage for the refixed date. If nothing else it would lessen the chance of anyone taking advantage of a Covid situation to allow them get a postponement so injured players, or players ineligible but who may be available at a later date, can play in the refixture. Thanks for clearing that up for me Soma. Much appreciated. I would be inclined to agree with your suggestion in relation to a home venue for Galway.

Yeah, I think that's a positive idea. I would have no problem playing Galway in Galway. As you say it may lessen the chance of teams pulling a fast one.

I can't understand why it's Semple Stadium at 7.30 pm! Semple Stadium is a 2 hour drive from Galway. The Gaelic Grounds would be easier to get to and about the same distance for both teams.

Fair point. I believe Galway should have home advantage or which ever neutral venue The Tribesmen wish to nominate.
