Replying To Galway9801:  "None of that information need be provided via an earpiece,,nor does it need to be viewed from far away for a stats man to gather,, it's not a bloody ocean you're looking at.
Standing on the sideline as managers do the farthest player from you isn't much more than a good kick of the ball away from you."
The people in stands with the computers or whatever else they are using to collate stats can tell a far deeper story and provide a lot more information to a coach that someone standing on the sideline alone wont ever be able to see/actually use.

Replying To Greengrass:  "Teams weren't using this type of technology fifteen years ago. It had just become available. Therefore no team gained an advantage from using it. This refrain "ignoring the basic skills of the game" doesn't stand up to any scrutiny either. Modern day players are as skilled as any players who went before them. The next thing you'll say is, "modern day footballers are athletes not footballers.""

Far too many teams are more worried about how much distance a player runs rather than their skill set. This ties in with the rise of war pieces and teams of video analysts.

What does a GPS tell you? A player could have ran 7k a match without touching the ball, scoring or making a tackle but on paper he would look like a work horse.

Replying To SaffronDon:  ""Keeping the ball until a high percentage shot area" that's called common sense. It's a shame it wasn't applied more years ago. We wouldn't have to sit through all those hail Mary clearances to nobody. What's the great skill in that?

I think you're selling GAA teams very short to suggest they should go back to playing the way their Da and granda did. Its really just admitting we've learned nothing over the years and yes, not moving with the times. There have been plenty of great matches in recent years, even this year so far. There were also many terrible matches from those 'golden years' you were highlighting there. Id rather see our top managers be innovators than sheep following a rigid, outdated system. Just because its an amateur sport doesn't mean it has to be run in an amateur fashion."
Wasn't going back to the 50s or 60s lol. In my opinion (not everyone will agree and thats OK) but in the 00s teams had a balance of tactics and skill. They were getting caught up on stats.

In Sean cavanagh book he said back in the 00s when tyrone were great his pre training meal was 2 mars bars and a can of coke. Now every player has a specific meal plan, GPS tracker, 4 nights in the gym etc but for all of this I don't think it's improved the games. Heck even a top coach said its getting a bit out of hand, all this linked e.g ear pieces, video analysis etc etc

You are looking back to around the time Tyrone were winning All Irelands by the sounds of it.

All due respect to Sean, but that's an appalling meal for anybody to have on a regular basis, let alone an AI winning player. You speak about meal plans and gym sessions as if they aren't recommended by health professionals everywhere as part of a healthy routine with multiple benefits for everyone, not just athletes. I'm not quite sure what the problem is with the things you've mentioned above, would you prefer players to be pinting after every match and eating junk food in case people think they take their sport too seriously?
