Just want to say well done Westmeath Gaa for setting up the new Youtube programme 'The Westmeath Game' which reviews all the football and hurling club championship games in the county. They come in for a lot of criticism for coverage of our games but this is 1 thing they have definitely got right. A brilliant initiative!

Indeed, a good initiative. But when did John Maughan join The Downs ?? lol Same crack in commentary.

I'll second that, excellent viewing, great insight's and from someone who lives overseas, it is a great way to keep up to speed with the local championship. Not to put added work or stress on the two presenters who I think have been magnificent so far, but it would be great if they could pick a team of the round after each championship round. Granted that both men can't watch or be at every game but they seem to be very well informed. Really enjoyed the programme, long may it continue.

Yep, 100% agree. A very simple yet affective format - highlights of the two streamed games from the weekend previous and then just the two lads having a chat about them and all other games. I would like to see it expanded slightly and maybe have a club focus section where the lads go out to visit a different club every other week and help the club in question promote their efforts they are putting in. But regardless of this, well done to the organisers.

Very good idea by Westmeath GAA to run the weekly show. But I feel the analysis on the show has been poor some the statements and stats that were given were completely wrong.

Would be nice if they got some youth on the panel. Maybe some recent retired players who know how football is played in the modern age.

I would have to agree with you there regarding some statements and stats made being off. However it is a great initiative and it's early days yet so the lads involved can only get better, hopefully this is only the start of this show and they can learn as they go and expand. Well done to all involved

I agree with the lads above. Great to have a highlights programme on Youtube. But Temple56 is right, would love to see some ex footballers or managers involved. Some of the comments and statements by the commentator are rubbish really, and he does the same during the matches on Iarmhi Tv too. Rather than actually commentating, he goes off and a ramble for 5 minutes. Regarding the championship, great to see some shocks and unexpected results. I still think Lomans will hit their peak after the group stages, and the downs look impressive too with loughlan. Group B is mad. The next result for every team in vital. Moate seem to be holding their own at Senior level. If they beat Rosemount in the next game, it could leave Rosemount and Killucan playing the last game with the loser being relegated..

I'd like it to be more insightful too but these two lads are probably the only two lads willing to do it and if they don't go off the information they've been given then certain games wouldn't be mentioned. It's not perfect but it's a start, maybe down the line if they had willing people a different person would jump in to help discuss different competitions e.g intermediate , senior B , senior .

Definitely a good innovation and is something worth watching. You know when you are put sitting behind a microphone, keeping up the chatter is a challenge - ever try doing it ? Improvisation is often required so I would overlook any shortcomings. After all, we have to listen to politicians talking through their rear end often enough - and they are well paid for it.

It will be tight for sure, don't know if it will be a cracker in terms of football quality.
These local derbies tend to be heated and fractious and therefore low scoring but Kinnegad have been racking up the scores. A few injuries in both camps so doubt either will be full strength.
Garrycastle v Lomans surely a more attractive fixture in terms of potential quality - just a pity they are both on at the same time.

I wouldnt agree that the downs are flying. Garrycastle should have beaten them and they scraped over a poor Athlone side. Kinnegad have been the form team of the championship so far putting up big scores and are real contenders to win it. The winners of Lomans Garrycastle will take great momentum into their final group game before the knockouts, this is certainly the game of the weekend.

ye kinnegad have been putting up good scores and their defence seems solid enough too. Who would be in the Final its hard to call this year.
