Replying To Claretandblue:  "Loman's winning junior championship match by 19 points against Athlone indicative of their strength in depth. They and The Downs will take beating in Senior and junior championships, especially the junior."
Both will be semi finalists at both grades and potentially finalists at both grades

How does having 3 teams work? Is it the same with senior and junior that if you play Junior you can't play junior 2 for the rest of the year? If so how do these clubs have the resources to tog out 50+ players each weekend?

Yes if you play junior you can't play junior 2. The downs fielded four league teams this year so no surprise they can field 3 championship teams. Must have big numbers coming out of underage continuing on playing adult football rather than falling away and giving up . Commitment from players also must be immense in order to field 3/4 games each weekend

Kinnegad full value for win against Tyrellspass. They will push Lomans all the way in round 2. Massive win for Shamrocks, they should push on & make it out of the group now. Very tense affair between Athlone & Garrycastle. Group 1 is going to be wide open, Killucan & Shamrocks should make it out of Group 2.

Some post mortem in Rosemount this week but they can bounce back against Shandonagh.
Think there was a black card in closing stages but 4 points (3 frees I believe) is not good.
I for one certainly didn't see that coming from Shamrocks who play Moate next.
Kinnegad only a slight surprise, their young lads improving every season they play senior and will fancy their chances against Lomans.
Watched Athlone v Garrycastle, tense and messy local derby but thought the ref did well. Nothing really got out of hand.
Mixed emotions for a new look Athlone team - down to 14 for alot of 2nd half, were leading into injury time but conceded a late free.
Looking forward to reading the match reports in the local papers and seeing the team lists.

The intermediat one is a really tough one to call, castledaly in my eyes we're going to go staright back up, but a poor display against tang, tang look really fresh and fit, mtp were amongst the favourites to but with Gavin Glennon ouT injured, Kelly out, and Brennan seems to be gone from the panel are 3 big losses to mtp this year,
Malachys will be in close contention to a nice fit team with some fabulous footballers, by far the hardest championship to call

Interesting predictions. Junior will be tighter. Bun v Paul's. Paul's were blitzed by Joe's in first half and couldn't make up enough ground but are good enough to press Bun hard. Two to three for Bun. Ballycomoyle V Bgore. I fancied Bal to beat Finea but they didn't. B gore were undone by Buns experience but I think Bal will win narrowly. Finea v Joseph's. I'll go opposite to you and plump for Joseph's here. They met in a very tight play off last year and Finea got over the line a e t. Finea are experienced and Joe's are young. Going for youth by three to four.

The downs third team 8-18 Delvin 8 points, Only a 34 point loss, that doesn't bode well for north Westmeath football

Intermediate shaping up as many predicted. Tang, Castledaly and Malachys all winning easy enough looking at the score lines. Probably a surprise Tang beating Miltownpass so easily but they have started well with the two wins. Castledaly seemed to pull away against Maryland in the second half from what appeared to be a tight first half. Maryland are very much at a low and losing Kieran Martin for the year is a huge blow. Malachys again won with a big score line over Ballymore who appear out of their depth in group 1. Malachys will have a big say in this championship and if they can keep their dual players going well will be a good shout to win it out. It's still close to call between themselves, Castledaly and Tang. Group 2 looks like St. Mary's and Tubberclaire are the main two to top the group but I wouldn't rule out Milltown either

Things beginning to take shape in the various football championships. Kinnegad and The Downs virtually certain to qualify for semi finals with Garrycastle looking likely for quarter final despite losing. In intermediate Malachy's have won all three matches by significant margins, Castledaly had an important win against Milltownpass. Group 2 is tight with The Bridge, Ballynacargy and Milltown in contention while already Kilbeggan versus Multy in last round looks like a relegation play off.
