Congratulations Ladies

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Thinking about it more, I had never seen Meath win an all Ireland before last week and all we had were stories and YouTube videos about what being a Meath team meant and this team just embodies it. Playing a fancied Ulster team in Armagh in the quarter and playing them off the park, very like Tyrone in 96. Coming back from the death against Cork in the semi final like Kildare 97, Dublin 91, Louth 02 take your pick. And then taking on the ultimate Meath cliche and making it true. Meath don't fear the Dubs, and they go in as massive outsiders and overturn the defending all Ireland champions a bit like the Leinster final of 96. It is absolutely astonishing that when a Meath team is going well they always seem to embody the never say die ultimate belief attitudes that Meath are known for. Like the minors the week before what a credit to their county they are

Replying To Fionn:  "Sincere congrats to Meath Ladies on a wonderful victory yesterday.

Disappointed the Jackies didn't get the 5 in a Row - but they didn't deserve it yesterday.
Started off too slow, panicked with the kick-out's, their passing and their shots.
Too many wides and had no answer to the Meath defensive strategy, and Meath intensity.

What Eamonn (and his back room team) has achieved with this Meath ladies football team in such a short space of time is absolutely remarkable.

Originally from Gowna in Cavan, he and his daughters were synonymous with the development of ladies football in Boardsmill, Co. Meath.

When Meath won the All-Ireland U16 ladies title in 2009, he managed them and was assisted on the sideline by 2 of his daughters. Another of his daughters was on the team.

From losing 7-22 to 3pts in a game in 2015, he took over the Meath Ladies Senior team in 2017.
Under his management he has taken Meath Ladies football out of the doldrums, Meath won on a Div 3 title in 2019. and have now won back to back All Ireland Titles - Intermediate last year and now Senior All Ireland champions. With a Div 2 League title in between, earlier this year.

Similar to the Dublin v Mayo and Tyrone v kerry games recently, the better management team and tactics on the day, along with the greater fitness, intensity, hunger & desire of the players, won out.

ps. Saw a funny clip of your team returning last night to Trim from Croke Park.
(Must have been over 2,000 supporters on the route from Batterstown to Jack Quinn's to Knightsbrook Hotel - crazy joyous scenes and a superb welcome home for the Meath ladies).
Eamonn's wife was waiting for him in the Hotel lobby with a pint of Guinness in her hand to give to him.
He was asked by a reporter had it sunk it yet, and Eamonn looked down at his pint, cheekily smiled & winked and said - It will probably sink in in a couple of minutes, cheers.!!

;o) - anyway Congrats again. Fair play."
That's a great story but not totally correct. He didn't manage the U16 team in 09. Ollie Bowe was the manager. A man who spent 30 years looking after the u14/16 teams and brought countless players through to senior level.

Take a bow ladies take a bow. What a wonderful occasion on Sunday the atmosphere was electric from start to finish. It was a wonderful sight to see men, women, girls, boys and babies all decked out in green cheering our wonderful county on.I was buzzing and bursting with pride to be there on Sunday. Not much more I can say that hasnt been said about the team and management. The heart, fight, fitness, hunger, skill, belief, discipline and togetherness was something else a joy to see.My nerves were gone wishing the clock down with 10 to go thought Dublin might get in for a goal but they stood firm.On Dublin I have to say the team and management seemed to be very gracious in defeat, staying on the pitch a fair bit after the cup was presented and congratulating the Meath team so fair play to them for that.Meath went at Dublin in the first half and then switched to a more defensive mode in the second half had two different game plans which caught Dublin on the hop I think, management deserves great credit for the tactics. Some super scores from both sides, a very good game to be at and I'm sure will give Ladies football a massive shot in the arm. With the minor lads winning last week and minor girls winning leinster as well it has given the county a massive boost and hopefully we can nurture this young talent into the senior teams and make us a much stronger outfit in the years ahead. So huge congrats to Meath ladies team and management and enjoy every minute of your time on top.An Mhi Abu.

My daughter was on that team from she was 11 Definitely was Ollie Bowe up to U14 But I thought he was still Manager then. But I may be wrong. I don't remember Eamonn being there I know Cliona was full back and he was always around. I would argue the point with you but the article says different. I better go dig out the video and photos. I must be losing my mind.

Said during the week she is happy to remain with Meath for now, but it may be an option in years to come.

Great management setup, shame the men's team couldn't have the same sort of professionalism.

Yes indeed ! Showed the ideal template for success. I thought the managers interviews showed real leadership .He and his players showed us what can be done. Calm,,balanced, willingness to learn whilst enjoying every minute. Refreshing to see an atmosphere where players are free from fear, and willing to take personal responsibility for their contribution to team effort. Can we bottle that attitude and culture i wonder? Well done to all !
