He's a class act and a great sportsman. A fantastic role model and a great ambassador for Offaly, the GAA and Ireland.

Comes across as true gent, putting his expertise and money behind a county he obviously loves. Great to see.

He's a great man no doubt about it, he never forgot were he came from, hopefully Offaly GAA will reap the benefits in years to come.

A really great fellow. He loves the gaa and a great gesture by him. It would be great to see Offaly rise again but alas they have a very small pick.

I hear the excitement but can he contribute that much financially? WIll he be our JP McManus? I dont think so...I heard one time what Carroll Meaths sponsor Offaly and while it is a generous amount and greatly appreciated it would come no where near what some sponsors are pumping into other counties...Faird dues to Lowry for contributing, if I won the lotto at the weekend I would contribute too and pay a few bills for others sports in our locality whom are "hand to mouth" survival as I am involved with them, BUT I wouldnt want it known publicly though..not while I am in my prime years anyway...

Typically cynical reaction.
Take what help ye can get from whatever quarter and be grateful.

From a quick Google JP was worth 2.1 billion in 2018, while Lowry is worth 10 million. Hardly a like for like comparison.

Lowry is not obliged in any way to be a sponsor, just wants to help in whatever way he can.

Fair play to Shane Lowry because if Offaly were waiting for the gaa to help them out financially they'd be waiting a long long time.

Best of luck to Shane and Offaly in the future.

I think you are missing the point of the publicity. Duignam is surely hoping that high profile sponsorship from an internationally recognized sportstar might encourage other people/businesses to do the same.

not a like for like comparison, and as I said fair dues to him, he mixes in the GAA circles when he is home so thats why he is helping out...2.1 billion or 10 million is irrelvant...if he had half a million and was donating I would see a not "like for like" comparison, but 10million to most of us would be no different in ways to 2.1billion we would have more than more than we would need...interesting some finacnial analyst was on radio a few weeks back and said the average Irish person would need €80.000 per year to live comfortable life, we may get used to the less than half comfortable life after that statement..I wonder how much is Lowry giving Offaly GAA,will it ever be revealed wonder...

But if you were a world famous sportsman you might say it publicly! You don't know what you would be like with a bit of money and fame just be grateful he's donating.

The story was covered in the national media. Shane Lowry's sponsorship is a great boost for Offaly GAA, including sponsorship for underage development. Shane is supporting Offaly in a practical way, he always supports Offaly teams.
