Just reading an article about John Conlon saying that the Clare centre of excellence isn't up to much. It got me thinking about which county has the best centre of excellence?. I here reports of Tyrone has a great set up but was never in it so can't confirm. Our one in Laois isn't too bad and is in a great location. I hear the Offaly one is a nice one as well. Centre of excellence? What an odd phrase. What does it mean? is it American?

The original one was in Wayne's World where they used to Party On.

In Carlow we don't call it a Centre of Excellence. We call it a Training Centre which is reflective of our modest aspirations. Onion Breath (Carlow) - Posts: 1412 - 27/04/2021 23:57:48 2339041 Link 0 |
Agree with previous posters. The "centre of excellence" is basically just a phrase of the day. A trend. I've never heard it used in any other context. Theyre all basically just big training facilities/gyms/tracks with added nice facilities for meetings or photos or social occasions. Some are flashy and some really arent, but that's not what's important. They add to the brand of their county I suppose but again I personally sort of see them as a trend. A show pony. Not to take away from the facilites being there for making the most of talent nationwide and driving up training standards. Young_gael (Meath) - Posts: 587 - 28/04/2021 07:12:26 2339045 Link 13 |
"The one in Meath looks good from the road ". Reminds me of when I first met my wife.

There were years there Onion Breath where it would have been simpler and more effective to forget about the county team and just send Rathnew or Baltinglass to beat Carlow on their own and condemn your lot to your damnation of eternal scallion picking
