We've gone from being the sort of team who struggled for years to put two good performances back to back, to going unbeaten for a whole year, winning everything along the way.

Awesome team that have brought great joy to Limerick people everywhere.

As for Justin Mccarthy.. He'll be remembered forever as the manager who brought our team to the most humiliating beating ever at the hands of Tipp in the 2009 All Ireland semi final..
A beating that ironically enough kick-started the current era of success.. We were in a mess and good hurling people did what they could to fix it.

So in a round about way we can thank him for these good times... They won't last forever but we'll enjoy them while they do. Luimneach abu!"
Skillet it wasn't all Justin McCarthy either, SOME of those players of that era never blamed themselves for their performances on field or questions their choices off it and caused problems for other managers like Dave Keane, Pad Joe Whelehan and looked to get rid of Richie Bennis too. 1 senior player in particular put younger players under pressure to go on strike that time too and the like of Paul Browne, Nicky Quaid, Greame Mulcahy and Bryan O'Sullivan told him where to.

and maybe Galway."
I started the post. While I like Limerick, I did want Waterford to beat them in last December's AIF. As I said already, it's their style of hurling that causes me to see greatness, not their medal count. Still, I'd have yer lads from 2006-2009 ahead of them for style, and of course for medal count. That could change though, for as you say, the potential is there.

How do you quantify what a great team is then?

Tipp 2010-2014 were a great team, winning 2 all Irelands.
The Waterford team of 2002-2006/7 were a great team also and they won no all Ireland. They were a super outfit capable of beating any one in Ireland including the great Kilkenny team of that era.
They were so unfortunate not to win the ultimate.

Winning back to back Irelands is a very narrow definition..
A lot of hurling pundits, including multiple All Ireland winners from Kilkenny recognise the value of this Limerick team... Appearing in 3 semi finals in a row, winning 2 all irelands and back to back league and munster titles is a great achievement by any standard.

Should have read "Tipp 2010-2016"
Anyway, my point remains the same.

A great team? They never played in an All-Ireland final, and the only played Kilkenny once between 2002-2006/7, which they lost. The use of the word "great" is an exaggeration, a good team maybe. The Cork team that played in four AI finals between 2002 and 2007 (winning 2) were far better.

Limerick winning this year's all Ireland would be 3 out of the last 4. then you can say. Great team..

That Cork team is gone, this Limerick team is on average about 25. I think everybody should wait another five or six years to judge them. Personally I think the Tipp team that beat Kilkenny in three Finals- the acid test for team this Century- were better than that Cork team. They also went toe to toe with KK in '09 and '16, whereas they beat well in the years they came out on top.

Limerick? Look at the comment I was replying to, it has nothing to do with Limerick, it was about Waterford team of 2002 to 2007

I cannot say if this Limerick team are a great team or not, greatness can be subjective.
What I do know is that they are GREAT to watch from a Limerick perspective and they have achieved GREAT results over the past three years.
That will do for me to be going on with and I will leave the conjecture up to others to play with.
I'm looking forward to some more GREAT displays from this wonderful Limerick team.
They have brought such joy to us long suffering supporters and indeed to the whole county of Limerick and Limerick people everywhere.
Thanks to this Limerick team for what ye have done for us Limerick supporters......some say ye are not great but ye are plenty good enough for me and I believe ye are good enough to win some more!

Yes, that Cork team are gone, but the were a great team, just like the Tipperary team between 2009 and 2019 (won 3 AI, runners-up 3), the Kilkenny team(s) between 2000 and 2016 (won 11 AI, runners-up 3), were beyond great, they were exceptional; are all gone.

I totally agree with what you say "I think everybody should wait another five or six years to judge them.". I stated the same myself in an earlier comment. But I feel there are a few people getting carried away with themselves with how "great" this current Limerick team is.
