Being behind for most of the game is wiping the floor with them? Christ I'd hate to see what a tight Cavan win looks like. You must be fairly confident in Cavan winning Ulster again next year?

Are the rest of the Donegal people as bitter and angry as you? I doubt it. Go for a long walk tomorrow, listen to some Celine Dion, cry it out and you'll feel much better. Cavan_Shambles (Cavan) - Posts: 575 - 05/12/2020 19:52:31 2318710 Link 2 |
I really dont know about that,a 15 point win for the dubs over any team in the country right now isnt out of the question.

But formula one is bringing in rules in the next year or so to level the playing field at least. Meanwhile, the GAA continues to bury its head in the sand.

I think its more likely Dublin beat us by 15 than we beat them, much more likely. I would be expecting around 10 points as a gap, which as usual means with such a lead Dublin wouldn't have a need to go full tilt

Dublin played well today but Cavan got caught out with too many turnovers, also Cavan had wides from very scoreable positions but as the game progressed Dublin became more and more dominant. Cavan were very worthy winners in Ulster having beaten Donegal with only 14 players for much of the game. fainleog (Limerick) - Posts: 598 - 05/12/2020 20:27:33 2318755 Link 1 |
I still think what Kerry and Mayo have shown is it's possible to compete with Dublin. However I'm starting to move into the camp where I think there may be a problem. This years All Ireland final granted as expected Mayo win tomorrow is significant. Mayo are not a poor county, neither are Kerry or Tyrone and they're counties who have their own finance to at least have the strength and conditioning to tackle Dublin players. It was very clear this evening Dublin just walked through Cavan players. Privately though there must be concern within the senior corridors of Croke Park; obviously nothing will happen with a Dublin President; his idea was the super 8's and splitting the championship to try and reduce obvious one sided games however if Dublin are winning All Ireland semi finals as easy as this then that might not be the solution. When a new presidency takes over next year there might be more scope with the senior committees to discuss the "Dublin issue"; that's if Mayo don't solve the problem before then. sam1884 (UK) - Posts: 999 - 05/12/2020 20:27:38 2318756 Link 0 |

This is a very bad post. I think it's perfectly accurate to say that Dublin is easily within 10-30 (yes 30pts) points better than every single other team in the land. Cavan deserve huge credit; a great championship they had, and not once tonight did they throw in the towel and except their fate. They went till the final whistle. They are a credit and deserve a bit of respect. The generalisation of rating teams by Div 2/3 etc doesent hold weight for me personally anymore, particularly in a knockout match setting. I have to be honest with you, I think you're deluded in what you posted. Paddy the begrudger. Further to that; there are too many of you out there in Donegal and Tyrone and Mayo and Kerry who are the nearly-men of the day and just dont seem to be able to see the big picture in the game as things stand. The reason for that is that they top the also-rans and have the illusion of competence, ie; reasonable chance of some success and some prestige. The rest of us don't have that grey mist to hide us from reality. We cant be pretenders to an insurmountable throne, or even pretend to be pretenders as some seem to be. This notion of some sort of competition remaining in the championship as things stand doesent hold water anymore. I ask you this, would you be happy if things continue as they are and Donegal/Kerry/Tyrone/Meath/Timbuktu etc win a single all-Ireland every 20 years? if between now and 2050 Dublin win 20 or so, which seems likely as a midling estimate. Surely people see the wood from the trees here. I want to finish up by saying I also have massive respect for Dublin and this team are a mighty team, theyre awesome. They deserve everything they get their hands on. The issue with the game is nothing of their doing and is up to the association to fix or suffer further. I wish Dublin well in the final and eagerly await the other semi! To the Dubs posters, not trying to rain on your parade. Congrats on making another final. Kerry showed last year that they could draw with a 14-man Dublin, well beaten in the replay. Mayo were beaten by 10 points in the semi-final. Tyrone even got to play them at home in dead rubber Super 8 games twice in the last two years and didn't get a result.

Your spiteful comments thrown Cavans direction now I see. Donegal couldn't cope with Cavans intensity in the ulster final and only for some questionable refereeing decisions would have been beaten by a greater margin than the 4 points that they were. Cavan were outclassed by Dublin as everyone has been but they are thoroughly deserving ulster champions.

Delighted with that, we needed a tough physical game and definitely got it. Cavan are a good team. Kicked some cracking points, fought for everything. You need to be almost perfect to beat Dublin and the inexperience of turnovers, unenforced errors and bad shot selection were depleting. But teams with bigger reputations have come to Croke Park and not put it up to Dublin like that so I really respect Cavan, absolute guts and bravery. One of the most committed teams vs us in a long time. TheUsername (Dublin) - Posts: 4445 - 05/12/2020 21:46:47 2318848 Link 4 |
Top Class post. You have restored my faith in this forum tonight. We are hurting very bad tonight from that defeat and some of the comments on here have been disrespectful and a bit nasty if we are honest. Ultimately if you take Cavan out of this championship its been a very dull championship overall. Its been a terrible year in general for everyone and them lads have light up the lives of a lot of people over the last few weeks in this county. Yes we we were off the pace tonight, but we were of the pace 12 months ago in the Ulster final and look what happened. Mickey is a one off and a genius.... we will be back. asdfg (Cavan) - Posts: 316 - 05/12/2020 21:50:12 2318853 Link 0 |
They are obviously the best conditioned team in the country. Dublin were winning most of the 50/50 contests against big Cavan players. To be so far ahead in conditioning more time has to be put into it. You need rest time between sessions and so on. So if the Dublin team are carrying out their professional 'jobs' to any standard they are well and truly supermen. Do I believe that, not a chance. These boys are getting plenty of time away from the workplace. Apart frombeing skilfull footballers this physical edge gives the game away. When in possession other teams can hardly lay a hand on them. Yet when other teams have the ball the Dubs can turn on the swarm on players at will. Something doesn't add up.
