Here is my stab at the team I would like to start. I noticed it the past few games Shane Walsh drifts. out to the Midfield area and wins kicks outs gains possession etc. He put in some lovely passes at that split the defense, the last day. I would like to see him do more of this, Thats why I would try in out the field, and play more of Giles type role, see how he gets on, and maybe inter change with Mc Mahon. There is a load of tight calls going on involving the like of Costello J Wallace Lenihan Mc Coy Toner. Scully Devine etc.

I think you are very close with that one. I am assuming that Shane Gallagher and Padraig Harnan are injured? If so I think you could be on the money with that one - and with your call on Shane McEntee - he could come in at 6 with Ryan going in instead of J McEntee (ryan started there last week)
I think Andy wanted a ball winning half forward - someone who could win kickouts in either the 10 or 12 channel - that's why he was looking at Devine and Costello but I don't think either showed enough in the rest of their games to merit the start. I'd certainly go with McMahon - he does a huge amount of work around the pitch that people don't pick up on.

Maybe try him in goals, at one time I heard the Peter Darby played on every line for Meath except goals, a new horizon therefore.....

Yep, if I was sure Gallgher and Harnan were fit and had got some league game time both would come in at the expense of Toner and Hickey.

Honestly, I don't know enough about Hickey, He has done well but its hard to tell from the telly. I think going into the championship experience is key also. I still would not change my back line Ryan Harnan Keoghan. If Harnan is around ? I think people and management underestimate Ronan Ryan. Ryan came to my attention against Cork in league 2019 he had a great game that night. He was a key player in getting promotion IMO. I like the way he defends and his positional sense is good also. I would be comfortable plaything anywhere in the back line. With the exception of full back. He is that versatile.

Hickey and Keoghan offer such an exciting attacking threat as a pair ! Build on this and Play Either Harnan or Ryan at 6 ! Ryan still could play at 12 and drop back and sweep ! Hickey was terrific in the championship for seneschalstown and glided past the oppisition ! He must start the next day !

Could be

1.Colgan
2.Lavin
3.McGill
4.Toner
5.Keoghan
6.Harnan
7.Hickey
8.Jones
9.Menton
10.O'Sullivan
11.McMahon
12.Ryan (Drop back)
13.Morris
14.Walsh
15.O'Reilly

a lot of the positivity and excitement around Hickey is based on his Underage Performances and Club performances this year, which were at times unreal. That said , point on experience is solid, there is always room for taking a risk on a new kid, & this is probably the time to do so on him, If it doesn't work out , I think he has a strong enough mindset not to affect him longterm and if it does work.....andy & the boys have a great addition to the top 25. PS....if optics are anything to go by....his body language & application in his senior debut against Dublin in parnell park, says to me that he is worth the risk . Jaz boys it is great to see a young lad coming in against the dubs with loads of attitude...but equally with tonnes of humility....back to the old days

We need men who don't fear the opposition, who have a sense of swagger about themselves. I want to go into a leinster final with a Meath team who can beat the Dubs this year. Go back to the traditional Meath roots

I hear ya LR , and I don't want to come across as argumentative just for the sake of , But I really feel strong on this issue of humility. I use to love it seeing the Dubs under Caffrey , high fiving after scoring goals in leinster finals & qtr finals in 2008/2009/2010......they had loads of swagger...but what we have to understand is what Gilroy did and Gavin carried on is get rid of that BS and replace it with genuine humility, and a sense of committemnt & undertand ing of what it meant to represent your county....we had that in abundance in the 80s , 90s and before...and we lost that....we had lads walking around in Navan with a Meath tracksuit on , glad just to have the fecking gear, and to be called a Meath player..that **** under andy seems to be over ..if they are there...they are there for a reason now beyond themselves.... Finally...in mentioning hickey... a big shout out to the Junior Man Harkin…what this man has achieved is equally as impressive & satisfying to see...what a journey...and journeys make men! C'mon the Royal!!!
