Yes, yourself and Fergie are right: Stacks will only play if Crokes don't win the Co. Championship. A rare lapse by me! Aibrean (Kerry) - Posts: 263 - 22/10/2019 18:50:45 2245033 Link 0 |
I'm nearly sure the rule is once they make the final, if Crokes win on Sunday against South Kerry they will represent Kerry in the club championship regardless of the outcome of the final. Failure to win on Sunday will result on Rockies representing Kerry. Horsebox77 (Kerry) - Posts: 5491 - 22/10/2019 18:53:21 2245034 Link 1 |
I completely agree with the person that said there is no place for Amalgamated teams in the Club Championships. Find_the_space (Tyrone) - Posts: 313 - 24/10/2019 16:12:47 2245509 Link 0 |
Why do you agree? These divisional teams have been around for near 100 years. They were designed to ensure small clubs that struggle to get a team together could put forward its best players for county. Cork is a big county and even today it would prove very difficult for a county set up to view all clubs in all divisions. This set up means the best players play senior championship. It is not an advantage normally as divisional teams do not have the cohesion a club team does. It is relatively rare in cork for divisional teams to win the county in either code. Imokily are an exception and Duhallow are in their second football final in a row, however clubs usually dominate. Beara won a county championship in the 90s with a pick smaller than many clubs in Cork and beyond. I know it's alien as a concept outside of Cork and Kerry but it works and has no baring outside the county, so not sure why people outside the county are so against it. Yes got that one wrong. Austin Stacks won the senior club football championship in April ffs. Now you have a team that probably trained half hearted in the last few months - because they had a possible chance of winning a Munster title - representing Kerry in the provincial championship. gaelicgab (USA) - Posts: 878 - 11/11/2019 16:55:09 2249113 Link 0 |
Whether you think divisional teams should be allowed represent their county or not, this situation where you beaten finalists going into province generally doesn't work well eg. Glen Rovers. Glen were soundly beaten by Tipperary champions Borris-Ileigh yesterday but yet they could match a team of twelve clubs in the county final. Allowing beaten finalists or clubs who haven't won their county championship progress in the provincial/All Ireland championship does a disservice to these competitions. gaelicgab (USA) - Posts: 878 - 11/11/2019 17:14:24 2249118 Link 0 |
It doesnt really put any disservice. If you cant allow sides made of multiple clubs into provincial then it has to be county runners up or what happens in Kerry. The side who enters Munster is one of the 8 senior clubs. They will have won the senior clubs champion or the winner of county championship between senior clubs and the regional sides. It does do a disservice because often you have matches that aren't competitive. It happens at intermediate and junior level too.

I find the whole divisional teams in the championship so alien and strange. I obviously get why and I can see advantages ie junior players getting chance to play on the big stage/helps county teams etc. The_Fridge (Tyrone) - Posts: 2087 - 17/11/2019 22:12:40 2250068 Link 1 |
