James McCarthy has received a retrospective one-match ban from the CCCC for an incident involving Mayo's Diarmuid O'Connor in last month's All-Ireland SFC semi-final.

The Irish Independent is reporting that McCarthy will miss Dublin's first competitive game in 2022 after video footage showed him lashing back at O'Connor just after Rob Hennelly's retaken '45' brought the game to extra-time.

The incident led to an angry exchange between opposing players after referee Conor Lane had blown his full-time whistle.

Meanwhile, John Small will not face any retrospective charge for the incident in the same game that left Mayo defender Eoghan McLaughlin requiring jaw surgery and in a race to be fit for Saturday's All-Ireland final against Tyrone.
