Rory Kavanagh has pulled out of the race to become Donegal’s next senior football manager, according to reports.

The St Eunan’s boss was thought to be the frontrunner to succeed Declan Bonner but it has now emerged that he is not interested in taking his native county’s vacancy.

There was disappointment for Kavanagh and St Eunan’s last weekend as they fell to a one-point defeat at the hands of Naomh Chonaill in the county senior football final, relinquishing their title in the process.

Kavanagh was expected to take the Tir Chonaill reins after the decider but, having seemly opted out, it has now emerged that Armagh All-Ireland winner Aidan O’Rourke is the new leading candidate for the post.

The Dromintee clubman previously managed Louth’s senior footballers and had been in the running for the Roscommon vacancy back in 2018 before Anthony Cunningham was ratified.
