Gaeil Fhánada Le Chéile - Part 4
We are delighted to launch the fourth installment of our hugely popular Gaeil Fhánada Le Chéile programme.
Since we launched it in 2017, we've had:
Year 1 - 28 members.
Year 2 - 55 members.
Year 3 - 62 members.
It's aimed at Fanad exiles around the world (Ireland and abroad) and allows them to reconnect with and recontribute to the club.
There's some fantastic incentives again this year and we are calling on all our exiles to join this year.
If you're interested in hearing more or joining for the upcoming year, just get in touch with us.
The go live date is tentatively set as September 6th.
All funds raised go directly towards club development and this initiative has been hugely positive and beneficial for the club in recent years.
No other club in the county is hosting such an initiative so we are in a unique position to have so many passionate exiles contribute to our club.
Killybegs prevail in exciting u16 tie
Na Cealla Beaga 4:13
Gaeil Fhánada 4:09
The visiting side secured victory after a well contested and entertaining clash yesterday evening in Portsalon. The first half quarter saw the teams go score for score, as the sides were level on three occasions. Emma Hunter opened the scoring with Iseult Ní Mhathúna converting two opportunities. Killybegs scored three of the next four points, Iseult with the Gaels score. The last two scores of the first half came from the girls in blue and white. Bláthnaid Mc Ateer continued her goal scoring form, before Méabh Mc Ateer fired over the bar.
Iseult opened the scoring after half time to extend the Gaels lead to three, before a Killybegs purple patch saw them hit four point on the trot. Méabh Mc Ateer levelled the tie before two goals in a minute arrived, one for each side. The visitors struck first, but Emma Hunter responded from the next attack for Gaeil Fhánada to finish neatly to the net. Iseult then added her fifth point of the evening. Two further goals followed, one for either side as the game remained in the melting pot, Iseult Ní Mhathúna who had a very good evening at the office with the goal. The visiting team had a purple patch at that point, scoring two goals and a point in quick succession to move them well ahead. The Gaels to their credit fought to the last, with Bláthnaid Mc Ateer again finding the back of the net and Iseult adding another point. Killybegs hit a couple of late points themselves. Fanad went in search of some late scores to try rescue proceedings but some disciplined Killybegs defending and blocking ensured the result would be theirs.
Credit to both teams who gave it everything on the evening, and for serving up a cracking game. Particular credit to Aoife Sweeney, Rachael Friel and Emma Mc Grenaghan who battled on despite picking up knocks during the course of the game. The whole team put in a fantastic effort over the hour, with Kelley Carr and Bláthnaid Mc Ateer putting in their best performances of the season to date while Kaylagh Sweeney, Olivia Friel and Iseult Ní Mhathúna were very impressive as well. Next up is a trip to Bundoran next week.
Méabh Mc Ateer (0:02), Olivia Friel, Aoife Shiels, Kaylagh Sweeney, Caitlin Heraghty, Kelley Carr, Iseult Ní Mhathúna (1:06), Emma Mc Grenaghan, Aoife Sweeney, Rachael Friel, Emma Hunter (1:01), Bláthnaid Mc Ateer (2:00), Roisín Carr, Orlaith Mc Grenaghan.
Home win for u13 Boys
The u13 boys recorded another home victory on Wednesday last, this time against a stubborn St Mary's, Convoy, who were hard to shake right up until the end.
Only 4 points separated the teams at half time and the gap was the same at the second water break. Luckily Dan Martin, after an earlier strike which came off the crossbar, and Evan Mc Daid, found the net in the final quarter to ease the pressure in the last few minutes.
Cormac Dunleavy had another fine game at centre back, defended well and was dangerous every time he had the ball, scoring points, two important goals and assisting many other scores.
All over the field the Fanad boys worked hard. Shane Orsi in goals found the lighthouse crest every time with his kick outs. Conor, Mark, Charlie and Tiernan had the assistance of a star of the future in Ruairi Kerr, who shored up the defence in the second half. Evan, Oisin and Iosaf performed well between midfield and half forward while Jack Dunleavy was his usual busy self helping curtail the Convoy attack. Christian Gibbons grew with confidence as the game went on and made himself available on many occasions. The front two of Dan Martin and Conor Friel were on the end of many a good pass and played some intelligent football inside. Next up is the last game of the league, Glenswilly, in Portsalon, Wednesday the 11th at 7.30. Training on Friday as usual at 6.30.
Team: Shane Orsi, Conor Callaghan, Mark Mc Adoo, Ruairi Kerr, Charlie Doherty, Cormac Dunleavy, Tiernan Kerr, Evan Mc Daid, Oisin Lynch, Jack Dunleavy, Iosaf Mc Ateer, Christian Gibbons, Dan Martin, Conor Friel.
