Should Cavan V Dublin Be In Navan?

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Replying To browncows:  "It should be in Breffni Park and why not. The pitch has recently been re-surfaced and is of a very high standard at a fraction of the CP cost and they can supply GAA GAA stewards at no cost. Croke Park is the home pitch for the Dubs and if it is not would you please tell me where the play most of their matches."
Tipp v mayo should be in thurlas so , haven't Mayo played in CP far more than Tipp?

Replying To bdbuddah:  "I think it's smart what he said (tbh I haven't actually read what he has said, just going what has been written in this thread). He seems to have said it's an advantage to Dublin playing in Croker but his team will play there if it's fixed for there. Bit of siege mentality and if it gains a bit of traction in media it might it might bug the Dublin players. Cavan have little chance as things stand so stirring things up a bit can't do much harm."
"Bug" the Dublin players, they might sulk or lose focus, whatever, "genius idea". Throwing straws in the wind, will it distract the Cavan players from the job in hand, I don't know, will it sidetrack the Dubs, what do you think?

Strange that the Venue hasn't been announced yet. If its Croke Park, l, the Cavan players probaly wouldn't be annoyed, best surface in country. But outside would add intrigue too

Ah now! Sure sky sports asked them

If I was a Dublin player and was asked about should the match be in Croker I would find it an awkward question to answer. And I also think a bit of a siege mentality could help Cavan perform better.

Replying To HuddHastings:  "Should definitely be a neutral venue, agree with mcconville 100%.

Look, dublin are going to win handy anyway but take them away from their home ground at least, the sight of davy byrne and brian howard going through a sprint session on croker last week was sickening.

The cavan lads have all played in croker so they arent going to be looking for a dayout like awestruck children.

The capacity excuse doesnt wash now with crowds not allowed in. Take it out of croker."
All Ireland semi final Croke Park what's so special about cavan

Cavan Co. Board media press release today clarifies they have absolutely no intention of complaining about the fixed venue or requesting to play in any venue not fixed by the CCC.

End of discussion really, I'd say. Good on them, I hope they do themselves justice.

I'll agree to disagree, I think the siege mentality can be a two edged sword, if Cavan win everyone will say that their sense of unfair treatment galvanised them, if they get a beating the same "everyone" will say they lost their focus by making an issue of the venue. As regards the question being posed to Dublin players about where should the game be played is a non-issue, anyone that follows this team will know their attitude is very simple, administrators fix the venues and pick the match officials, players play.

This news will disappoint a lot of Kerry, Meath and Kildare people I would say. Another decision not made by Dublin that sees them playing in Croke Park.

I'm delighted with the decision. I just wish 82000 people could be in attendance to see Cavan beat Dublin. But it'll be sweet regardless.

Might help them put a Cork in it for a while.

"Cavan Co Board would like to clarify that they absolutely and categorically have never considered, nor, have they any intention of applying for a venue change for the upcoming All-Ireland Semi Final Fixture," the statement reads

"We are honoured and look forward to playing the All Ireland Semi Final as is fixed by the CCC."

Are you mad

You get to beat Dublin and save a few quid..

If it was any more perfect for Cavan folk they'd all ascend into heaven

It's catch 22 really. The bus fare is cancelled out by the price difference in a full roast vs a flask of tea and a few sangigges.

Cavan want it in Croker so it's not a discussion anymore

The best of luck to them . The whole country is behind you (dare I say a few dubs wouldnt be sad to see them win)

Throw the kitchen sink at them.

Fair play to Cavan GAA coming out with a classy statement like that to (hopefully) hopefully end the hysterics and give people time to calm down.

In general, I find most Kildare posters here to be quite objective and rational.. Ewan McKenna doesn't speak for all of us
