Football Allstars 2020?

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Usually a good debate to cause a few rows this one :-p, they were discussing contenders on OTB this morning.
As is always the way the 2 finalists (likely Mayo and Dub) will almost certainly end up just getting the bulk of them, but heres a stab of them as it stands. Im tempted to pick 15 cavan man but managed to restrain myself.

Also seems mental leaving out Langan and Shane walsh who have been the 2 best footballers in the country this year but thems the breaks of knockout...

My attempt

R Galligan (Cavan)

Mullen (Mayo)
Faulkner (Cavan)
Maher (Tipp)
Durcan (Mayo)
Small (Dublin)
Gerard smith (Cavan)

Fenton (Dublin)
Mc Kiernan (Cavan)

Quinlivan (Tipp)
T Galligan (Cavan)
Kilkenny (dub)

C'oConnor (Mayo)
con callaghan (Dublin)
Sweeney(tipp)

Hard to argue about that team but alot could change after semi and final.

There's no "could" my friend. It will all depend on results and final especially.

I agree within reason. I think Thomas Galligan is nailed on for one no matter what happens in the next match. An absolute warrior who has given enough huge displays already to warrant selection in my opinion.

S Cluxton Dublin

Mullen Mayo
Fitzsimons Dublin
Maher Tipp
Durcan Mayo
Small Dublin
Murchan Dublin

Fenton Dublin
Mc Kiernan Cavan

Galligan Cavan
Scully Dublin
Kilkenny Dublin

C. O'Connor Mayo
O'Callaghan Dublin
Sweeney Tipp

See above. Dubs 10 in a row deserves to be honoured. They net a decent Laois and Meath team on there way. A division 1 team at that in Meath. Laois and Meath would cause any Division 1 teams apart from the dubs serious problems on their day.

Tipp, taking away the romance haven't really bet a team at a significant level at the moment. The Cork result was no shock being honest. That's the reason why I have given them 2.

Cluxton made a tremendous save versus Meath and kick-outs were excellent again.

Cavan deserve their two and possibly unlucky not to have 1 more in the keeper.

Well I sincerely hope so sweets pot but I recall last year my own county an Stephen ó Brien was playing the football of his life and after the all ireland semi he was favourite for footballer of the year. He did nt get an all star.

In fairness Cluxton's save was arguably the turning point v Meath....

hard to argue with a lot of those but i would have Faulkner ahead of fitzsimons there every day of the week and twice on sundays, he has been brilliant for years now but only getting the recognition in 2020, as a cavan fan i wouldnt trade him for any other fullback

If Thomas Galligan doesn't get one then the entire section committee should be excluded from getting the Covid vaccine.

Its a measure of the man and player that he can stay focused like that though even in hammerings like that.

The greatest keeper of all time, no competition. Some pundits wondering how Dublin can perform to Gavin's level under Dessie Farrell forget that Dessie also has Cluxton. He's the man who also demands high standards from the squad and has no problem letting them know. Galligan though, for me so far, in this All Ireland Championship.

What would you expect any other goalkeeper to be doing in that situation? Leaning against the outside of the post smoking a woodbine!

Why did you pick Cluxton do you mind me asking? Has he had as much to do as Galligan in Cavan for example? He's an unreal keeper, but there's a reason he only has 5 considering his career and titles won. He simply doesn't have to do the work of others. His highlights reel this year is very light

Yeah you can't look past Raymond Galligan as keeper this year so far.

Some big, big saves as well as that monster free to beat Monaghan the first day.

Shane waslsh has been fantastic and a standout player. However imo he won't get an all star. Maybe not even a nomination. The all stars originally were set up to pick the best players over the year league and championship included. The all stars would nearly always have someone from the league winners and provincial winners but now its mainly based on all ireland finalists alas. I know the ladies gaa a few years ago picked the all stars before the all ireland final but not sure if they do that anymore.

Well Hennelly wasn't smoking a woodbine in 2016 but he may as well have been.

What's this, a ******* competition. We all know Cluxton is a good keeper but umpteen goalkeepers would have saved that shot no matter what stage the game was at. No need to elevate him to sainthood. And no I don't rate Hennelly but even he would have saved that, especially if it wasn't an All Ireland final.

What? lol cavan beat 2 division 1 teams that actually did put it up to division 1 teams for real not hypothetically! They deserve more then 2 as much as it pains me to say!

Dont matter. See how they go in the semi? If Galligan in goal does well he might get the nod. But Comerford or Cluxton might get it either. Who else then? The Dubs done 10 in a row.
