Considering Cavan are 6/1 outsiders now....do we think the book accurately reflects the provincial finals
Cavan were poor at times last night and Cork do have a really good direct ball option.

Also is this fair.....(dont want to be a downer but just a thought)
features of the last 4 Ulster final Cavan U21 teams has been really good teamwork, well co-ordinated gameplans and a well balanced team throughout

However some drawbacks...Lacking real star quality, no big standout scoring forward(s), hard to pick out definate standout future senior stars.

Its possible that Cavan are producing a lot of good footballers which will improve things hugely, promotions etc - but not the great players to win senior titles.

I was at the game last night. yee were man for man the best team. I thought young mcloughlin was very good kept mcbreaty very quiet although in the last 10 minutes he start to get a foot hold in the game. Your number 11 kicked too great points as good as you see anywhere in the country Cirarian mc donald comes to mind. Your full forward was full of running and was always making space for the fast ball in. I would have to say i thought the ref was very picking throughout the game and let cavan take quick frees while he made donegal re take at least 3 or 4. that said yee were way the better team and will be my favouriets for the all- ireland. hope you do it.

We're all open and fair minded here DD10, and the comment you made is a fair one. I would agree that we have produced hard working and well co-ordinated teams. We don't have a Cillian O'Connor and we don't have a Paddy McBrearty, thats correct. However, if you compare the respective senior setups, for example compare Cavan to Donegal and Mayo, the star men i.e. O'Connor and McBrearty have star studded senior teams which helps them along and will obviously make them look all the bit better. Say you took Enda Reilly or Jack Brady and played them in the Mayo or Donegal team. Would they hold their own? I think so.

But if you add them to the Cavan senior team its much harder to make an impact due to the poor standard. We have talented players, but we're adding them to a toxic senior team.

With the All Ireland semi fixed for sat 20th has the county board decided to postpone club games for that weekend? Personally I think it would only be fair to postpone all games to maximise the support in tullamore and so people can also have a good night after the game.

Congratulations on your 3 in a row last night. I thought yous were the better team in most positions and only for Mc Brearty's class we would have been well beat. Losing Ryan Mc Hugh was a big loss for us and it was obvious in the warm up he should never have started.

With that being your third U21 you would have to be confident of progress as senior level, these players have a winning mentality and if they look after themselves will benefit from that at senior level.

I'd say the worrying point for yous last night was that we didn't play well at all and our tactics in the first half were awful but even so we got through one on one with the keeper 3 times so you will need to tighten the middle up a bit if you are to win the AI AND tell your keeper he doesn't have to come for everything.

Best of luck to your team and very loyal support, a great achievement to win 3 in a row at any level and I hope yous go on to add the AI now.

Congrats lads. I was at the game and thought the standard of points taken from range was outstanding. It is a skill that has obviously been drilled and is paying off now. Also noteworthy was the maner in which your lads were able to defend when they needed to. There is nothing tactically naive about this team. There are 2 other outstanding teams left in the competition, and it will all be on the day. I hope you do well.

out of this under 21 team, who are the players fancied to make an impact at senior level in the next few years! thought number 25 was very good, he contributed to alot of your scores. Number 11 was very good as was 13! number 5 must be another top player when donegal had a man deployed to man mark him! The midfielders were great fielders of the ball however didnt look very comfortable on the ball!

@Sergeant,
Excellent reply to DD10, spot on. I detect a bit of bitterness from DD10? Or maybe it's the green eyed monster???
Cork will be a huge challenge , but I think the Cavan lads will go into this years semi with more experience than before. It's a more cohesive team, and they all have skill,. and more importantly they go out and do the job that's asked of them.

breffni blue....

Where are you going with that ?
I am from Cavan, support Cavan, go to plenty of underage ....just making a point based on what I see.
Which Sargent slash replied to in an appropriate manner - while you are at sea.

To clarify ... Its been 4 years since the last major U21 player in Ulster ( Murphy).... teams since (principally Cavan) are well set up, well motivated and have a great team spirit ....all great things.
But when you move on, especially out of the province then you need more......that's where we are short ....I am not sure this year, but I suspect the same (as do the bookies)

DD10 thats just stupid! Most ulster teams have a scattering of youthful former under 21s From last 5 years. Note those above plus say O hehir (Down), Lynch (Derry), McManus, (Monaghan). Might not all be Murphys standard but not many are!! Clarke, Mcgloughlin, Flanagan, Smyth, Brady, O Connor and many others capable of stepping up. plus those gone before say GIVNEY, MCKIERNAN Rory Dunne already established after under 21 success?

I think that is the problem for Cavan football for far too long, too many so called star players who never achieved anything. With these present young u21 and minor players it seems to be different. These lads know how to win and more importantly they are willing to put in the hard effort and dont fear anyone. They now expect to beat teams like Armagh, Tyrone , Down etc. They are still young when it comes to Senior but they did pull off 2 stunning wins against the 2 top teams in Div 3 Monaghan and Meath. But allied to that inexperience caused a few poor displays against lesser teams. But they will learn.

DD10 comment that we have no standout players just doesent stand up. If you were at the Ulster u21 semi and final recently you would have seen a number of very classy players. I wont name them as it would be unfair to single out certain players. Remember these lads have been the best in Ulster over the last 3 years and possibly 4. Yes it is time to kick on and win an u21 title but I am quietly confident.
Lets hope we can look after all of these lads and if we do then Cavan football could be entering into a glorious era. With men like Terry Hyland, Peter Reilly and Ronan Carolan among others I think we do have the men on the line.

Cavan U 21 for 3 in a row

Cavan U 21 have the unique distintion of winning 3 Ulster titles is a row, when the defeated Donegal last Wed evening. Cavan have a wonderfull record at U21, and it is felt that it is only a matter of untill we make the breakthrough at Senior level
