Anyone know the venue for the Down game? Sergeant_Slash (Cavan) - Posts: 2182 - 21/03/2013 11:37:22 1353271 Link 0 |

totally agree with you slash Daragh McVitty was outstanding mopped up everything ,a very clever footballer ,young Mooney was a revelation until he tired, the 2 young lads (18 & 19 yrs)at midfield will be better for that experience , very impressed with line calls they debated things & moved quickly , still a bit of fine tuning needed i.e. when to play the ball forward , but everything is on the right track . Great credit due to Couny Board for them taking a long term view we are begining to see a lot of talented players coming through the ranks and being properly schooled & nurtured, witness the growing influence & prominence of Cavan players in games that matter. We are by no means there yet but with a bit more patience we will come good. spiritof97 (Cavan) - Posts: 36 - 21/03/2013 11:45:23 1353284 Link 0 |

Agree with Sergeant slash, was a good win, but we nearly threw it away. You forgot one man, Jack Brady. I thought he had a tremendous game, he is a play maker, delivered two gems early on, but O'Connor and Turloc missed. He was involved very deep, he seems to be sacrificing his own position. It's a pity we can't play him inside, but need him to win the dirty ball and get it in. Saw him make a few runs for a return but we shot wildly instead .Mooney improved as the game went on, fumbled a few early on O'Connor's goal was great, but he needs to hold on to the ball inside and not get turned over. Sexton was excellent, as was Mc Vitty and Gerard Smith and Jason, very solid. able to carry the ball. Thought the game was gone with the wild shot selection near the end, subs did great in extra time. Wild shot selection will have to be looked at, need a more measured approach for the next day. wonder will the clubs have to play without them the weekend before the down game or will those games be off.. wishfulthinkin (Cavan) - Posts: 1750 - 21/03/2013 12:07:58 1353317 Link 0 |

The rule should be all or nothing. Some clubs have low numbers so would be at more of a disadvantage than others without their u-21 players. Although the players not getting game time with the u-21 team would benefit from playing at the weekend. Perhaps each fixture should be looked at individually BreffniBlue (Cavan) - Posts: 278 - 21/03/2013 13:04:11 1353367 Link 0 |

Lets hope the same fixture issues are being discussed on this forum in two weeks time! kildare blue (Cavan) - Posts: 578 - 21/03/2013 13:17:29 1353390 Link 0 |

Congratulations to U21s on a great win . Slow start and should have closed out the game early in the second half but failed to take our chances . However we played some terrific football when the pressure was on and it really mattered . Some great performances all over the field . Please God Ciaran Brady will be available for the next game. Delighted also to see so many Cavan supporters get behind the team, especially when the going was tough. BreffniBlue (Cavan) - Posts: 278 - 21/03/2013 17:32:37 1353634 Link 0 |

Wonderful result and another great step in the Rehabilation of Cavan football. As I said before over the last few years our underage success has been phenomenal even thogh the cynics sneer at this and say it has no effect on Senior long term. This is rubbish when you think of the underage success of Tyrone many years ago which was then translated into 3 All Irelands. Brownred (Cavan) - Posts: 229 - 21/03/2013 17:47:07 1353645 Link 0 |

Well cavan people are taking massive positives out of last night but would it not worry you's that cavan only scored one point in the second half. McVitty was in my opinion man of the match with Brady close behind, but i do feel that the Cavan Management made two big mistakes during the match. Taking of the number 12 he was causing monaghan all sorts of trouble with his energetic running and also His ability to field kick out. The big lad argue shouldn't have been taken off as Sankey wasn't really winning much ball around the middle and obviously his job was to stop Dooney which he done well at. Cavan's extra fitness proved vital in the end and the introduction of 24 and dillon done the trick. Have to say the ref was poor for both teams and some of the frees extremely questionable at times. Think Cavan if they are to win ulster need to move Brady closer to the goal and also speed up the passing a lot of labouring over and back and going nowhere hence the low scores in 60 minutes. Monaghan big named players didn't perform well and Cavan should be complemented for that. Peter Reilly and co have a good bit of work to do. As a performance like that won't stop down who have a few players making big strides with the senior team. shaggylegend (Monaghan) - Posts: 1949 - 21/03/2013 18:54:49 1353711 Link 0 |

Great result. Was away last night so listened to Northern Sound coverage over t'internet. Good to hear Nudie Hughes commentating - was such a great player. Pity they couldn't find an equally articulate Cavan legend to provide the opposing point of view? opa01 (Cavan) - Posts: 550 - 21/03/2013 20:15:10 1353774 Link 0 |

Great result last night and great tight match to watch, very impressive Cavan outfit with great strength in depth but must have Paul Graham back from injury for middle of field for Down match.Very good astute team management. The backline were outstanding all night and the whole team played like Terry Hyland teams at u21 have played for the past 3 years, you would not know management had been changed at all. With starting 15 plus a fit again Paul Graham plus Conor Moynagh plus Joe Dillon,Andrew graham,Conor Madden and Karl duke there is strength in depth without doubt. The future is bright regardless of what critics say as this is 4 years in a row Cavan have produced real quality at u21 level. celt2018 (Cavan) - Posts: 160 - 21/03/2013 21:22:24 1353823 Link 0 |

Good to see Enda Reilly make his mark the other night -didn't start a championship match at minor. By the way can anyone tell me how many of the 2011 minor team are featuring. TheFean (Cavan) - Posts: 28 - 24/03/2013 20:04:33 1355332 Link 0 |

Gilsenan, Jason Mc, Flanagan, Paul O Connor, Jack Brady, Conor Moynagh all started at minor that started the other night. Not sure about Conroy or Mooney. Thefryingpan (Cavan) - Posts: 26 - 24/03/2013 21:54:25 1355538 Link 0 |
