Well done to the under 21's great game, slow start some great points score.I thinl team selection for Down game maybe difficult for management with the quality of subs who came on & changed the game, Watson was great very fast & strong,.I thought Jack Brady, Killian Clarke,Gerard Smith ,Mc Verty Darragh Sexton all stod out.The goalie was excellient should be starting for seniors.

Great win last night, we wanted it that bit more and the home advantage counted in the end. There wasn't much between the two teams, the game was won on the sideline as we made some useful substitutions that made all the difference. There was nothing between the teams in the first half. Second half we got the goal and put 5 points between the teams. We looked as if we were cruising and would push on. However, we can't seem to finish out games once we go ahead, the same thing happened in the Hastings cup final and we let a 5 point lead slip. Monaghan's goal was sloppy, a high ball in and it broke to a free man with nobody marking him. They had a man sent off then with about 7 minutes to go. In the last few minutes we won 3 kickouts in a row, worked the ball forward only to kick 3 dreadful wides. We got the feeling it wasn't going to be out night. A 5 point lead gone, and kicking wides when well placed.

Roll on extra time and Monaghan were back to 15 players. It was all one way traffic over the twenty minutes however, as the Cavan substitutions roasted the Monaghan defence. Joe Dillon, Andy Graham, Conor Madden and Aaron Watson were excellent when sprung from the bench. The fresh legs really began to tell as Monaghan were unable to call on the kind of quality we had.

Overall it was an entertaining game, and we dug deep when we needed to. Clarke was solid at full back, broke nearly every ball that came his way and it was mopped up by the half backs (something the seniors could take note of). McLoughlin had a good game and got forward a good bit too. Half back line was excellent, well organised and good tackling. Midfield grew in stature as the game wore on, surprised Paul Graham wasn't starting. Turloc Mooney had a very good game at half forward, got taken off which I suspect was down to match fitness. Enda O'Reilly and Paul O'Connor caused trouble all night, got out in front and showed well.

Man of the match: Dara McVitty, not the biggest of players but never put a foot wrong, mopped up countless breaks, covered every blade of grass. Showed real commitment and drive, can be very proud of his display.

I think this years panel has serious strength in depth, a lot stronger than last years, the 3 in a row is well and truly on. An Cabhán abú!
