This will be interesting, there is no doubt this is a test for Cavan Management, they have a bigger collection of better players to choose from than Canavan has at his disposal in Fermanagh, so will Terry Hyland's management skills be good enough to outwit Peter Canavan? It really is a battle of the managers. Hyland has got to get his team selection, use of the bench and tactical approach right if he is to achieve credibility at senior level. He has been criticised for showing consistent favouritism to some players over other more talented players, alas this favouritism may now undermine his credibility as a real player in the Senior Inter County manager scene. This is really about Hyland V Canavan, come on Terry you have the players there, now do the right thing with them.

thanks for the opinions lads , i think it is a disgrace that a player would not put on his county jersey , something years ago was an honour and were worn with pride , but thats the past now and i have enough of living in the past , so bring on kildare and sj on the 1st !

also lads good luck in the future and im sure that this new crop of players for cavan will wear the jersey with pride , hopefully !

Maybe you missed it but Seanie was told by the last manager that he was no longer wanted on the Cavan panel. The new manager didn't change from that stance either as far as i'm aware, so Seanie decided to seek football elsewhere !! Pity the whole thing was allowed to fester and that the C.B. just stood by and allowed it to get out of hand too. We need our best players playing !!

ah jez cavan slasher - give us all a break - we stopped talking about SJ ages ago - we are discussing Cavan football here - not Kildare. Lets move on and concentrate on the future... I'm looking forward to see the Fermanagh v Cavan game. It will be a tactical battle with the cuteness of Canavan v's the newish kid on the block. Canavan has a lot more experience as a player and will pass on the knowledge to his player and in time they will win their first Ulster title but hopefully he wont pass it on this year. They were unlucky against Down. It will be a very interesting game - C'mon Cavan !!!!

Fermanagh start the games as favorites anyway and rightly so

Sadly there seems to be a complete lack of interest in this thread, not a very good sign, does it reflect a complete lack of interest in the Cavan Senior team and in Cavan football. In Cavan town during the week and last night, no one talkin about the cavan team or the game just attitude of so what we might win this one might not what does it matter? One very hard working club man, a dedicated GAA man said to me during the week, the Cavan people have been sold a pup and they know it, it will take years for us to climb out of this one. Sad!

Well if we can't beat Fermanagh who exactly can we beat??? We have 2 under21 titles. 1 minor title this past few years compared to fermanaghs little success a colleges level.. It's stand up and be counted time now for both management and players. No better place to start than with a win against a side who were in div 4 this year. Canavan did well to get promotion but I think they have gone back a bit since the league final.. If we lose Sunday it's a set back. A big setback because there comes a time when talking about winning is not enough, it's action time.. And that time is Sunday.. We should win this by at least 4..otherwise pack it in like Kilkenny have...

Richiej, don't you know that Cavan are rank outsiders to win the All Ireland, and if they can pull off a victory over a Fermanagh team managed by Peter the Great it will be a major surprise.

How would it be a major suprise to beat Fermanagh, and who said anything about the all-ireland.

They are poor and have lost their top scorer, they are there for the taking and i expect a Cavan win.

people on here always expect a win and it rarely happens. Paddypower has Fermanagh favourites and rightly so!

Why now would Fermanagh be favourites??? They were div 4 this year and beaten by London last year.If we can't beat them this Sunday what chance will we have of beating them in div 3 next year? And what chance will we have of beating a div 2 side that was relegated. Our players need to step up and prove they good enough to be considered for senior football next year. We have 2 under21 titles under our belt .some of those u21 of 2011 have 10/12 competitive senior games played this past 18 months. So it's time now to step up.. We can hide behind who should be favourites and who shouldn't be but there comes a time when the talking needs to be done on the pitch .. And its this Sunday.. No excuses. No crap about we teambuilding.our players are actually more experienced than fermanaghs.. Get the job done. Move on to round 2 and hope to draw someone like Letrim.. Cavan by 4.

I agree that this qualifier should reveal a lot about the quality of the new Mgnt team. How have they spent the time since the Donegal game? What have they learned? What improvements have they introduced? I will accept almost anything except the same again.

Such arrogance from Richie and Slasher. Have you not realised that we have NO divine right to beat Fermanagh?? They got themselves promoted from Division 4 this year. We avoided relegation by the skin of our teeth. Fermanagh are at our level and while we can be hopeful that we are in with a chance of beating them there is no doubt that they are favourites given our woeful year so far, the bookies very rarely get it wrong.

This is a different Fermanagh side than the one beaten by London last year, Richie and Slasher are the very two men who pointed to Canavan's impact, how he got the best players in Fermanagh playing, how he has All Ireland medals and is tactically astute, a winner who will drive the team on to greater things. Then when we're playing them that all goes out the window and they are a team that we must beat or otherwise we may quit completely.

Cavan need to give this one a real go. If we see the same commitment we saw against Donegal we should be able to get scores somewhat easier and a win is within the capabilities of this young side. Fermanagh are no slouches though and any victory will be hard won. Best of luck to them.

What basis have you for making such a wild disgraceful remark??
Are you aware of what Terry Hyland has achieved over the last 3 or 4 years as well as what Anthony Ford has achieved both as a player and mentor/ coach. Are you aware that Terry was successful over club teams as well as managing Cavan to an All Irl over 40 title. Anthony won Ulster u21 as a player and mentor and was instrumental in the Gaels long run of success. Maybe you should reveal your true identidy and we might see what you have achieved. You may indeed be the Forgotten Man!! You could join forces with Richiej and Slasher to manage Cavan!!!!!!!!!

Anyway have to agree with JonSmith on his measured response. We have the players to win and hopefully they can show us what they are capable of.
Fermanagh were never easy. Remember when we last won Ulster in '97, did we beat them in a replay? Here's hoping for a great Cavan win.

A lot of talk on here about a Cavan WIN this and Cavan WIN that but not much talk about the Cavan team that are going to WIN this game in Enniskillen. Fermanagh are good at the back and midfield but we might come up a bit short when it comes to the score board, should be a good game but whoever wins will not go much further me thinks?

lads whats the story regarding throw in time.? we have a very interesting game on the horizon lads. we have fermanagh who had a great season already and have tasted a feel for winning and there manager is a born winner. then we have cavan who in fairness have had another very poor season and in fact we havent had a good year since 05 maybe 08 at a stretch. our league form would suggest that we will be out of the championship before entering july. however the apponitment of hyland was very important. he is a great manger and i honestly feel we will win Saturday. it is very interesting 2 see what will happen. i live on the cavan fermanagh border so i always love the cavan fermanagh games. i hope there will be a good cavan crowd there. lets get behind the boys i think we could be in for a longer summer then what we have become accustomed 2 over the years.
