A Fermanagh GAA club is in mourning following the tragic death of a father-of-five in a car crash.

Maguiresbridge St Mary’s has led the tributes to 40-year-old Daniel Lavelle whose car was in collision with a lorry near Lisnaskea on Wednesday evening. "As a club, we are heartbroken," St Mary’s posted on Facebook yesterday.

“We lost club member Daniel Lavelle in a tragic road accident yesterday evening. We send our deepest condolences to Daniel's wife Eilish (Rice) and their five children - Jacob, Cliodhna, Laoise, Michaela and Domhnall Óg, all of whom are active members of our club.

"Daniel was a huge supporter of his children within the club. Whenever there was underage training or matches, Daniel was there. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Lavelle and Rice families at this extremely difficult time. A devoted father and husband, May Daniel now Rest in Peace."

Lisnaskea Emmetts also paid the following tribute: "The club is absolutely stunned and saddened to hear of the tragic passing of Daniel Lavelle in a road accident yesterday evening. Daniel is the brother of our esteemed former club secretary, referee and umpire, Emmett.

"We send deepest condolences to Daniel’s heartbroken wife Eilish and their five children and to his devastated parents Michael (Snr) and Mary, and to his brothers and sisters, Emmet, Michael, Michelle, Barry, Majella, Maria and Emma, and to the entire Lavelle family circle."
