Why Not Allow Divisional Teams Represent Their County? - 10 Like(s)
Shouldn't be divisional teams at all. Its a club championship, not a divisional championship or a college championship. If i were from Glen rovers I'd be rightly annoyed that although they were the best club team in the county, they were denied a county championship title by a team with the pick of 24 clubs. Or imagine if your a small club who get a great once in a lifetime type of team who make it to a senior county final only to be beaten by a divisional or college team? No place for divisional or college teams in CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS

The fact that we have now a 'Galway Junior C' topic at the top of the national forum should be indication enough to the admins that this was a bad idea.

Should Unvaccinated Fans Be Allowed Into Croke Park? - 5 Like(s)
Anyone who is calling or supporting certain people being excluded from going to our games on the basis of not wanting to take part in a medical experiment, is every bit as bad as those who discriminate against any other minority group. A scandalous suggestion and anyone who supports it has lost the run of themselves and has lost all sense of perspective.

GAA on TV - 4 Like(s)
We are talking here about EXTRA GAA games on TV. To those here who think that RTE should be the only provider, would you be happy to accept less games shown then? Because that's what would happen. Also, whilst I have no reason to doubt that Jack Boothman was a fantastic GAA man, his opinions on TV rights expressed in 1994 or thereabouts, are quite frankly irrelevant in 2021. James Nowlan (the man who Nowlan Park is named after) was the longest serving President of the GAA at 20 years. He presided over the introduction of the Ban in 1905. In hindsight, a ridiculous rule which was to last until 1971. Should we return to the days of the Ban, just because a GAA president endorsed that view? Just because a GAA president expressed a certain view, or endorsed a certain policy, does not mean they were correct regardless of how many people they may have had in agreement with them.

Unique GAA Club Names - 4 Like(s)

Replying To iluvspuds:  "They're not even the only club called Slashers in the county. Shroid Slashers are a junior club based just outside the town but in the same parish. However, they haven't fielded a team in a couple of years, and they have no underage teams either. Apparently, both are named after Myles 'The Slasher' O'Reilly who was an Irish patriot in the 1600's."
I'd say Myles would have been a scaldy corner back in his day

Eddie Keher 5. Tommy Walsh 6. Brian Corcoran 7. Nicky English 8. Joe Canning 9. Seanie McMahon 10. Ken McGrath 11. Joe Cooney 12. Pat Hartigan 13. JJ Delaney 14. Brian Lohan 15. Noel Skehan 16. Eamonn Cregan 17. Eoin Kelly 18. TJ Reid 19. Tony Doran 20. Ray Cummins Glaring issue there is how low JJ Delaney is. Would swap him with Tommy Walsh (and still have Tommy in the top 10), and move Canning further up the list into the top 5 too. Both Tony Doran and Ray Cummins should be ahead of TJ too in my opinion."
In all fairness in terms of backs, seanie McMahon, Brian Corcoran and pat hartigan were not better than JJ Delaney. As simple as that In terms of goalkeepers, Noel Skehan was not better than Damien Fitzhenry or Eoin Murphy. Joe Cooney better by 7 places than TJ? Don't think so. And no Michael fennelly.

Does The GAA Have Too Many MEANINGLESS Matches? - 3 Like(s)

Replying To Trump2020:  "One glaring difference between the GAA and other leagues are the amount of meaningless matches. In most leagues every match counts as it can be the difference between getting to your sports playoffs or even relegation. The word "meaningless" may be a bit harsh and many people might get annoyed but let's face it the attendances got some of these matches is pathetic. Examples of MEANINGLESS matches: the League, the Walsh Cup, etc. Even though the League can be a useful tool in preparing for the Championship it's still loaded with meaningless matches. Do the weaker teams get better because they just went through a League schedule?!? Not really. Kilkenny are still Kilkenny and Leitrim is still Leitrim, etc. Combine the League and Championship in some kind of SMART way and then you'll see attendances improving due to the matches having some meaning."
If we compare it to English soccer. The Championship is the equivalent of the premier league The national league is the equivalent of the FA Cup The Walsh Cup or whatever is the equivalent of the League Cup. All have their place and all have their function. They are not meaningless

Cork's Dismissal Of The CPA Motion For Transparency. - 3 Like(s)
Looks like the cork co board are worried that people will know what way they vote. Anyone who votes in accordance with the way their county convention instructs them to vote has nothing to worry about. The argument that 'why put us in office if you don't trust us' is just a ridiculous argument. Accounts are audited every year, that doesnt mean people dont trust their treasurers. And to automatically assume that because someone has been elected to a position within the GAA or indeed any other organisation, that they are somehow automatically trustworthy in all circumstances is naive

GAA on TV - 2 Like(s)

Replying To ecad123:  "Absolute disgrace that all the hurling today was on sky, the gaa have a lot to answer for! People still can't go to games and the gaa basically give the two fingers to us."
There was no shortage of tickets for Croke Park today. They were on general sale nearly all day yesterday. There has been so much absolute rubbish talked in the last few days about how disgraceful it was that todays games weren't on RTE etc. Firstly, let's address one myth: Contrary to popular belief, watching RTE isn't free. We just have to pay for it in a different way, through TV licences and general taxation to pay the grossly inflated salaries of irritating presenters. At least a person has a choice whether they want to pay for Sky or not. When it comes to RTE we have no choice, it's forced upon us to pay for it. Secondly, a person without sky sports could have bought a day pass on nowtv for a tenner and saw all 3 games on sky today. €3.33 per game. You'd pay more for a coffee. There is an unbelievable sense of entitlement when it comes to paying for things GAA related. The GAA has a great product that multinational sports companies want to broadcast around the world. Why shouldn't we be welcoming that with open arms instead of cribbing. There has never been as many games available to watch on TV thanks to things like the Sky and Eir Sports deals. And it's not like all of the Sky Sports money goes into the pocket of some multimillionaire investor, the money is used to develop the organisation right across Ireland in every town and village. The shortsightedness of some people in their complaining is exasperating.

Replying To MyOhMi:  "Eoin & Rory are brothers Their father is Nigels uncle .. Work that one out in a typical irish relations fashion :-) This other topic pops up quite a lot - Oulart / Alley / Rathnure have the same issue .. Rural depopulation. None of the mentioned clubs have cut back on their appetite for winning or the work they put in at underage. In reality they have to put in more work to retain the less committed young lads and work harder on the weaker guys. Last week I was at a meeting in one of the Enniscorthy schools. 750 student school and that is only one of the feeder schools to the Rapps. Rathnure have about 170 in their school - that number was down to 120 ten years ago. Oulart & The Ballagh are no diffferent .. The latest population survey conducted by Wexford GAA showed that from Bunclody to Fethard pretty much all along the Blackstairs, the population had fallen significantly .. Wexford / Gorey had a huge increase in population. Is there a solution? ... it's not only problem in Wexford unfortunately"
The solution is to stop voting for political parties who stand over policies which encourage rural depopulation through the planning system. We are at most 10-15 years away from clubs permanently amalgamating

There is an awful lot of rubbish talked about pitch sizes. What it needs is someone to actually measure them all but that is fairly unlikely and unnecessary too. The smallest pitch in the county is Kileniran/Ballyfads main pitch. The 65 is the same for both ends. So its only 130 metres long. Wexford park might be one of the widest but it definitely isn't the longest. That can be seen from the gap between the two 65's. St Patricks pitch in Camolin is fairly long, so is Buffers Alley, Monageer, Cushinstown and Rosslare. Short pitches include the one i've already mentioned, plus Oylegate, Ballymurn, New Ross, Hollymount, Shamrocks, Duffry. But again maybe the 65's arent the correct distance in some of those pitches making them look bigger or smaller than they are. Also enclosed pitches generally tend to look smaller than pitches that are out in the open.

Your County Board - 2 Like(s)
Wexford Co.board do a good job in my opinion. In terms fixtures: We are a dual county with about 45 clubs playing both codes, and the co.board manage to provide a comprehensive fixtures programme for both sports, while always avoiding clashes allowing players the chance to play both in a serious manner. In terms of finance, we have a commercial manager, good sponsors and good facilities Coaching aspects could be improved. We have too many journeymen and coaches who aren't up to speed, which may be why we havent won an all ireland minor since 1968 and a leinster minor since 1986. This lack of top coaches has impacted on the standard of our county teams. That isnt the fault of the present co.board who do an excellent job, but it is an issues which needs to be dealt with somehow

Wexford Hurling 2020 - 1 Like(s)

Replying To perfect10:  "i would hazard a guess that nobody thought davy was going to win an all ireland in his time with wexford.i didnt anyway. but what i expected was for us to at least be competitive with most teams.in his tenure,we have beaten kilkenny and arguably for me a kilkenny team in transition throughout.we have 1 draw v galway and other than that they have comfortably had our number. we have had complete failures in the championship v clare and waterford.saturday was by far the worst for me.clare were so under strength and 1 player beat us on his own. that is nothing short of scandalous that we did not have any thought out game plan to counteract the hurler of the year elect.the goal was the worst for me.we gave him the freedom of the park to do as he wished. davy is well able to come out and blame, blame, blame, and its always what somebody else did. it would be good to think he would say at some stage that he got the tactics totally wrong, and show us that he is learning from these mistakes.not saying 'i played 4 different systems',tell us what was so different about them then? in the words of abraham lincoln,'You can fool some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you can not fool all of the people all of the time'"
In the words of Abraham Lincoln "Don't believe everything you read on the internet" I'm surprised not to see much comment about the ridiculous dummy team that was circulated by Wexford GAA on social media last Friday. It was obviously done on the instructions of the management, probably Davy. Anyone who is doing things like that in the lead up to a match clearly doesn't have their eye properly on the task at hand. Nonsense like that doesn't win championship games but it's just symptomatic of the type of rubbish people think will give them an edge. It probably has the opposite effect actually.

I'm just getting around to watching the cork Waterford game now. Obviously the pitch is in a disgraceful state but the other thing I have a problem with is the glare and the brightness of the concrete at the terrace ends behind the goals. I'm only 14 minutes into watching this game as I type and my eyes are already killing me from the brightness of the terraces. Anyone else notice this as a problem? Its a very easy problem to solve really, much easier than getting the pitch right anyway. The stadium probably needs to be closed again until they sort it out
