For no logical reason I believe that Meath are going to rise back to the top this year.

Donaghmoyne Ladies - 5 All Ireland club titles. - 3 Like(s)
Just have to mention the ladies from my own county - they have won 5 All Ireland club titles in the last 12 years. 5 wins out of 7 attempts and yesterday was the first back to back. These girls and management are outstanding and still have the hunger to come back year after year to win. They are the crossmaglen of Ladies football. The fact that there is no topic on this achievement highlights that the ladies do not get the respect they deserve compared to men's football so I want to highlight their achievements now. I hope you all can join in congratulating the team and management on a glorious achievement for the south monaghan club - and I have no doubt that they will be knocking on the door next year for a 3 in a row.

Replying To GaryMc82:  "You must have family ties in then every region except Monaghan judging by your opinions ....but then again we're not actually relying on you ....are we ! Shelbourne (Monaghan) - Posts:158 - 14/07/2017 01:08:51 2 Are you of the opinion that I am anti-Monaghan? Because thats not true at all, I was probably more honest in recent years than some Monaghan posters would have liked. But I gave an honest opinion, and it was based on what I seen on the pitch and not because of any underlying dislike for Monaghan."
Good man Gary, your honest alright, remember when you predicted Donegal to beat us by 7 or 8 points as Leo mcloone was going to cut through us like an east wind. You were no where to be seen after that match for a month. No harm in having an opinion or being honest but you seem to always be rooting for the team v Monaghan. Anyway we will not worry too much just hope you are wrong again today.

Job done, plenty to work on but its all about getting the job done in Ulster championship. Serious amount of venom coming out of Cavan towards Monaghan. Monaghan had a good spread of scores and good bench.

Replying To yew_tree:  "Great achievement alright. Carnacon of Mayo though have appeared in 10 finals and also winning 5 in an 11 year period."
Yes Yew tree - My ulster bias got in the way of Carnacon's achievements - both team's are power house's in Women's club football.

Rory Gallagher Steps Down from Donegal Post - 2 Like(s)

Replying To muckla:  "Its once in a lifetime that you get a player like Michael Murphy and once in a lifetime were you get a manager like Jim McGuinness. If I were Donegal I would do whatever it took to bring McGuinness back to Donegal whatever the cost I think his love for Donegal would make it a hard deal for him to turn it down. You dont want Murphy wasted for another 3 years. There is an opportunity there now and it would be great to see him back in the game."
I would actually go as far to say if the county board of Donegal had any guts about them at all they would make getting Jim back a priorty. It took 20 years for Donegal to win there 2nd All Ireland so why would you break that formula up. Derry made the same mistake in the 90s by getting rid of Coleman after winning the all ireland. Especially when Murphy is still in his prime.

Replying To farneygossip:  "I think all clubs in the county need to look at what Scotstown are doing away from there senior ranks... I'd say if we looked its still the same 22/23 players winning them championships but aside from that we need to look at there player retention. What are they doing differently. No doubt the numbers help...but: Is it the coaching? the culture? or are they just entering as many teams as possible so players can play games at any level? Themselves and Blayney entered teams in U18's this year and played by age not ability!! Playing games to develop players for the future. I've gone to games where teams have subs on the bench and insist on playing 13 aside instead of playing 15 aside.. which is crazy!! no wonder players are dropping off... they might not all be Cliffords but let them play. In the past few years since the change from U18 to U17 grade they seem to be very good at keeping there players training and playing football. Regardless of the quality of player they are possibly producing. I think its a credit to them the amount of people they have playing GAA regardless of ability. Carrick pulled out of the 18's so the youngsters could concentrate on seniors!! Madness!! A missed opportunity for a number of games for there younger players to have fun. Latton have 3 teams. Harps have 3 teams, Inniskeen have 3 teams. Blayney 3 teams. Clontibert 3 teams. Truagh have 4 teams. Credit to all these clubs for providing sport to players. Some of the more enjoyable games I've seen this year is reserve football free of systems and with open attacking football I personally feel alot of clubs use the change from U18 to U17 as an excuse for not holding onto players. I think as a County we need to look at creating more competition!! u19's, u21's What are our clubs throughout the county doing right and wrong. To have more competition at senior level we need more retention. Do we need more amalgamations at juvenile level? The more games we can get for players the better."
another problem is the shortage of referees. if you have more teams and more games you will have no refs for these matches.

Kerry were a level above today. We done well creating plenty of goal chances but needed 3 in the bag by half time to have caused them enough problems. Clifford and o Se just a different level compared to most players in the country. Some good performances, I thought Irwin played well and is getting to grips with the game speed each match I see him.

Back to the days of old with Donegal. McGuiness and Murphy to steady the ship. Mcguiness performed miracles before but almost ruined football along the way. I am not looking forward to seeing him back to do it again.

Game lost on line. No point saying otherwise. We give dubs the freedoms of croke park. If mickey harte doesn't get any more time with Tyrone we have to get him in. Our players are better than the way we set up today

Replying To Bernardo:  "Thanks muckla, i knew francie never did But it summed by point succinctly"
Bernardo, Big Joe had a tough job to get Francie to play ball for Armagh in the first place, talk about trying to get him to kick frees in croke park! I wish Monaghan played a bit more like that Armagh team with direct cross field balls into the forwards. Our build up play is too slow and killing the great forwards we have.

Replying To MonaghanGlory:  "Exactly, as another poster stated MOR can't put the ball over the bar so it's not entirely all his fault, also some wanting Banty back , I can't remember him keeping us in Division 1 for 3 years , getting to Div.1 semi finals, getting us to 3 Ulster finals on the bounce whilst winning 2 of the finals and winning 2 other league's in the process..."
Replying to monglory - you are right in your assessment of Bantys term. I would go one further to say that we had a better team during his spell than under Mals and we so badly under achieved. Banty stuck to a team of 15 and played them in most matches, he was tactically poor and it costs us big time. Banty was great at putting pride back in the jersey and I think that fogs people's memory of his time in charge which truth be told was very frustrating considering the players he had. Malachy has done a serious job and we just need to get it together and go at it again. I believe we can do this under Malachy.

Monaghan Minor Team 2016 - 1 Like(s)

Replying To Realword:  "The minor management had a two year term so unless they are giving another term we will have a new management team next year. I believe if can compete and develop players. Let's hope e get the right manager who had been successful at a level and has worked with young talent. Any suggestions?"
I think Noel Marron should be involved. I know a few of the lads who won the minor in 13 and they spoke extremely highly of Noel. I'd say he knows every player in the county also and would have savage experience from his playing days.

My mood is not great today and this has nothing to do with the Monaghan team or performance - I won't say too much in case it doesn't get posted. What I will say is we were not great on Saturday there were patches of good things - Owen Duffy running at them, Conor McCarthy contribution was good, Karl O OConnell, good kick outs but all in all we played nowhere to our ability. If Dick didn't give that ball away I feel we would have won the game and still played poorly. Yankee could have put Vinny clean through but was greedy, McAnespie losing concentrating at the vital moment, Finty getting fouled for their goal, 2 hughes no show, carey getting roasted. And after all this Donegal still only drew with us. Donegal played their best football in a long time and still only drew the match. That gives me huge confidence for next week. We won't be as sloppy, careless and inefficient again. Every man up their game I have no doubt we will win. I honestly think we can beat Donegal by a 3 - 6 points next Saturday and im not afraid to say it. If the players/management are as vexed as I am with the antics of the opposition I think they will channel this anger the right way and make it count on the score board. I think Donegal have crossed the line this time and the players will want to put them back across it.

The lights in Blayney were a sight to behold tonight, towering over the ground like 4 cranes in each corner. The lads were on the pitch kick passing and taking points getting ready for Sunday.
