yeah, Roscommon. Well done 5 hours of crap rugby yesterday and then the two greatest hurling teams in the game play in Thurles and nobody can watch it! RTE is a rugby station

the county board get money every year from Leinster GAA for running all our hurling development squads. the money is not spent on them. there is never any money to get tops for young lads. they also get money for stuff like a helmet subsidy scheme, again not passed onto clubs and schools. they'd rather disband an entire minor hurling squad over an incident involving 1/2 players than have to buy the squad any gear. family members of the top table getting paid for coaching in schools and clubs. I could go on.

Replying To Jack_Sparrow:  "If I was a Multy player I wouldn't worry about any physical battle, Bal showed their hand the last day , Multy will be well able from them in that respect. What Multy have to worry about is tradition which is a major thing."
Bal have a great tradition of being relegated

Probably the county boards don't want hurling developing any more

Replying To Left Full:  "Get over it Roger Roger. What's wrong with a lad playing two games a week. It should improve his skills & fitness & limit the amount of time he needs to train during the week."
so much wrong with this text this is how you get injured - playing multiple games with no recovery

Replying To keeper7:  "A big problem is also that the northern counties don't have the same access to 'outside' players from stronger hurling counties. Also our county secretary is insisting on listing our own county players by their football clubs ("for insurance purposes") in match programmes which really does make the team look like a 'league of nations' conglomeration. Not exactly ideal for our hurling clubs from a PR perspective!"
he's just being an idiot. still though, there are only two hurling clubs in Longford - Wolfetones and Slashers. Clonguish haven't fielded for a few years. Pity because they used to have some good underage teams. the county board have a 'full time' hurling development coach now. But the problem is that it is a box ticking exercise with a few school coaching sessions, mostly in schools that do not field any hurling teams in outdoor competitions but enter token teams in a series of indoor blitzes. It is the hurling clubs who need the help and the schools clustered around these clubs need to get the hurling coaching. the kids in the majority of clubs and schools in the county will never get to play a game of hurling

Replying To IrishGael3:  "For the life of me I do not understand Roscommon their tactics were brutal. Last attack of game they had a few opportunities to take a pot shot when the ref had the whistle in his mouth but no one would man up and kick and he eventually blew the whistle. Dire dire stuff from Roscommon at least Galway tried to play football."
Galway, two points up ,with the breeze with 10 mins to go had all 14 players behind their 45 Yeah, Galway played all the football alright!

Replying To Paulknows:  "John Donnellan Going Back to Castledaly, Ned Moore sure to take Shamrocks but he might also be the chairman at this stage after the agm. Garrycastle still not sorted i beleive the Gary Dolan thing not working out. Coffey surel will be wanted by a lot i would imagine. Has rosemount got anyone yet surely John Keane will take his own club at this stage. Tyrellspass wont get anyone easy as i believe both Glennons are gone David retired and Denis gone to shandonagh is the rumour. If that happens Shandonagh are a cert for intermediate in fact i would put moeny on them for Leinster never mind county championship"
Glennon transferred to Shan? they'll have to plan even bigger celebrations next year so. double decker bus

A full time hurling development officer in each of those counties would go a long way to helping Considering there are 50 full time GPOs in Dublin alone

Replying To TheUsername:  "One of the most amazing things about the Dublin Championship is that the county club semi and final had attendances of 10.000 +. Thats phenomenal and an indication of how strong the GAA is becoming in the county. All the talk of finance and the rest if the DCB are pulling in crowds like that for club matches it's certainly not a bad thing financially."
In Longford over 4000 people can attend their county senior final from a population of over 30000! the Dublin attendance is not great. St Vincents alone has a catchment population of at least 20 - 30 K
